We see the polls. Some say he is at 36% or 38%, but in truth, he has lost very little support amongst his most avid supporters. They still worship him. They will never desert him. They love his lewd, crude name-calling and the cruel manner in which he divides the nation, so long as he owns the libs.
I would like to believe that some of them are beginning to see the light. But that number is minute, in my opinion. They will stick with him until he is six-feet under ground. Then they will mourn as if their Father and Mother just passed. I have no faith in these people. They have shown their true colors too many times to believe otherwise.
Also, I believe that elected Republicans will pretend to be independent of their Leader to maintain some sort of credibility, but when push comes to shove, they will be right there with the rest of the adoring cult.

(45,610 posts)I'm hopeful they will crawl back under their rocks, aimless without their cult leader. There are no Republicans who can carry that mantle for them.
Can't happen soon enough.

(6,797 posts)I have a feeling that when old age and ill health claim him, the cult is going to believe absolutely that he was done in by the sinister forces of the "deep state".
I mean, why not? They believe all the other crazy shit about stolen elections, Democratic pedophile rings run out of pizza parlors, etc. etc. etc. If they've elevated Charlie Kirk to sainthood, then what will Trump be? An archangel?

(3,213 posts)When he kicks it, his maggots will cling to the idea the Deep State did him in; otherwise, how could such a youthful, exuberant, handsome man die so abruptly?
My head hurts thinking of this, but it will be a reality.

People who don't get that is the foundation of all of this see a false hope that they could step away from "MAGA." They might rebrand, but they ALWAYS will side against the "libs" and the DTs, Musks, Marg Greens understand and take advantage of that.

Not so much.
I'm really looking forward to the mid terms and the 2028 elections, I wholeheartedly believe that it will be a blowout election for the Democrats, and, speaking as a Boomer, I hope that the old guard will step aside and usher in the next generation of Democrats.

(112,752 posts)A second example that still shocks me: as a teen I remember time in Munich with my parents and met many older men wearing the traditional Tyrolean wool hat with a feather in the hatband and a number of pins--much like some collect bumper stickers. Observing them closely as they would drink their mugs of beer I was unnerved to see a lot of them with swastikas among those pins. Later, I would meet and work with an Argentinian-American woman, who was apparently the daughter of a Nazi officer who fled to Argentina after the war and we talked about it. She impressed on me that though her generation had turned their backs on Nazism and even held their family members at arm's length over the issue, those from that generation often continued to feel pride over that time and their "service."
So, yes. Some people just will never divorce themselves from prior deeply held beliefs or "membership" in a faction or cult.

(11,970 posts)He told me God decides and picks our presidents. Since God chose trump he supports trump. But he said he didn't understand why God picked Biden. I asked him why he bothers to vote if God decides who will win. He was at a loss for words.
These people have no critical thinking skills...none.

(27,005 posts)hard core believers. Polls don't measure the slow seeping in of doubt and the effects of infighting among some of Trump's closest allies. Once the full effect of the lapse of Obamacare subsidies takes effect in MAGA country, where the majority of those people live, the number of defections will start to accelerate. Farmers are suffering in spite of Trump's attempts to subsidize their losses - and those subsidies often don't help small farmers as much as they do mega corporate farms. Trump's policies are hitting MAGA in their wallets and pocketbooks, and that will have a telling effect on their loyalty. Enough of the doomsday pessimism. Trump is his own worst enemy.

(39 posts)He gives them an excuse to show their true, ugly colors.
He normalizes racism and hatred in general.
He dismisses the importance of education, elevating uneducated people.
By selling Bibles, he gives Christians an excuse to do what they have done best for the last 2,000 years - burn witches and pagans.
By disregarding the Constitution, he allows his followers to make up their own rules, no matter how hurtful, damning, or oppressive they are.
And most importantly, some people just refuse to admit they're wrong.
What the poll really reveals is that 36-38% of Americans are die-hard neo-Nazi's.
