Bari Weiss Launches Jar Of Mayonnaise Into CBS Evening News Anchor Chair

https://www.wonkette.com/p/bari-weiss-launches-jar-of-mayonnaise
Gary Legum

She's so good at this.

We are calling it now: Tony Dokoupil is going to fall so flat on his face as anchor of the CBS Evening News, he'll make Chevy Chase's talk show look successful. Hell make you long for Rush Limbaugh's stint as an ESPN commentator. Remember Megyn Kelly's run at NBC? Megyn Kelly will look like an Oprah-level talent by comparison.

Dokoupil takes over the anchor chair once occupied by Walter Cronkite and Eric Sevareid on Monday. His promotion from the desk of CBS Mornings is the first big, visible move by Bari Weiss since she was installed as editor-in-chief of the networks news division, and it couldn't have landed with a bigger thud when it was announced a few weeks ago. A generic mid-wit white guy does not seem like the sort of bold, unconventional choice that is going to get the CBS Evening News out of the third-place hole it has been stuck in for years and years now. Its a dying format and Weiss thought the way to help it was to dump more cement into the coffin and make it harder for the pallbearers to lift.

Weiss had reportedly chased some bigger names for the job. She allegedly approached Anderson Cooper and was turned down. She reportedly was big on Bret Baier for a while. Then she landed on the most generic white guy imaginable, a dude whose biggest career move previously was that time when he was a total dick to Ta-Nehisi Coates over the latter's criticism of Israel's repression of Palestinians.

That famous interview is probably what got Dokoupil the attention of new CBS News idiot-in-chief Bari Weiss, whose outlet The Free Press defended Dokoupil. And didnt even ask Coates or any Palestinians for their side of the story, which we thought was forbidden under Weisss journalistic standards.

CBS News Anchor’s Wife ‘Not Loving’ His Shift to the Right — Source

News anchor Tony Dokoupil has been promoted as the new lead for CBS Evening News, but his marriage with Katy Tur is allegedly being tested. The 44-year-old journalist married Tur, who is also an author and broadcast journalist, in 2017 and they have been supportive and open about their relationship since then. However, rumors are swirling that the political divide between them is growing, as Dokoupil reportedly had to shift his views to the right to land his new position, while his wife is the lead anchor for Katy Tur Reports on MS NOW.

Katy Tur is allegedly “not loving” her husband Tony Dokoupil’s on-air shift to the conservative side, according to several sources ...

===clip===

Another source referenced Tur’s long career with NBC News, saying “Katy is as liberal as they come. She built her whole career on it. So this new ‘centrist-to-right’ vibe Tony giving off? It’s throwing her.”

He already believes Bari Weiss was hired to kill off CBS News through her incompetence. The bonus being that they can blame it on a woman. Her hiring the milquetoast husband of one of his ex-girlfriends as the nightly news anchor should be good for at least 5 minutes on the next podcast. Unfortunately, I usually listen in the morning, so it's a bit too early for the popcorn...

Keith has the worst taste in women I have ever seen in my life. Tur, Olivia Nuzzi, LaLa Ingraham... Holy moley!

was sent out to ask people on the street how they would pronounce his name? Cringe. :/

I tend to think new organizations need to grow up and claim the space of reporting from Earth 1, along side MS NOW

a Scotch Bonnet pepper compared to Tony Dokoupil.

Weiss is determined in her efforts to morph CBS News into another "Drudge Report" without the sensationalism.

CBS had Walter Cronkite. NBC had Huntley & Brinkley. ABC had Peter Jennings.

Real news delivered by seriously real journalists.

Of course, back then the networks weren’t owned by huge conglomerates owned by Gilded Age robber barons.

CBS evening news is not even on my radar. Maybe that says more about me than CBS News, but one thing that is clearly popping up in that same radar is that Bari Weiss’ position is going to be short lived. It is a resounding echo of the CNN leadership shake up last year, or the year before with that Chris Licht guy.

When he converted to Judaism. And I don't have anything principally against writing, conversion, Judaism, or circumcision but I do wonder why someone would memorialize that in a national magazine.
