This is how everyday people are fighting ICE in North Carolina...

One of my former students who now lives in Charlotte, posted this on Facebook:

I’m in two parents groups that have been organized to help get kids safely to school/activities in the midst of this ice nonsense.
There are a lot of kids in Madison Park down to Quail Hollow and over to South Blvd who are afraid to go to school. A bus driver said he only had two kids on his bus today and they had their passports around their necks. 😥
If anyone would like to be added to the carpool list either to drive or because you’re scared to leave your house, please email me at ………

I will protect your kids like they’re my own and I know the other parents on these emails feel the same way.
I’m willing to get groceries, do errands, whatever my neighbors need.
Please share!

I am so proud of her and the other parents who are stepping up to help.

1. I'm glad to see most Americans are treating this as temporary, at least

It’s gonna take every patriotic American standing up for human rights. People who are not US citizens have the same rights as we do. Endowed by their creator

5. Sure, that's possible.

I assumed the non-riding student's parents were scared they'd be picked up by ICE, not the trauma of possibly seeing an arrest.

traumatize or even injure children) crashes through your window and drags you out, pepper-spraying the interior of the car, what then? I have long feared that those with concealed carry permits (or not) will pull out a weapon. Most are undoubtedly smart enough NOT to do so, given what is going on, but can there be only a few sorely tempted? As much as I share their urge to see more than verbal pushback, I know that would be deadly and give Trump et al the excuse of a decade to accelerate even more.

I remember after 911 volunteering with a group that would do similar for Muslims living near a mosque and an office I worked at in Denver. We did so for months. But, honestly, I feel as though none of them were at the same kind of ongoing risk as anyone with brown or black skin right now, who speaks accented English (or none at all) or a US citizen of any race or color who merely is in the wrong place at the wrong time, looks at these cretins "wrong," or understandably has difficulty not speaking out or interjecting.

He is absolutely appalled and angry at what's been happening and now in the beautiful city of Charlotte. He just posted something on his Facebook page about how his alma mater high school band walked out en masse to protest ICE. When he went there the band was one of the largest in NC. They won awards all throughout the South.

Band kids are the best of the best (I'm a bit prejudiced.)

The school is East Mecklenberg High School.
