Indiana Senator Targeted in Swatting Incident After Trump Criticism
An Indiana state lawmaker and his family were shaken but unharmed after a swatting incident unfolded at their home Sundayonly hours after President Donald Trump publicly criticized him and other Republican legislators over redistricting.
State Sen. Greg Goode confirmed that local deputies responded to what they believed was a domestic violence emergency at his Vigo County residence. According to Sheriff Derek Fell, an email sent to police alleged that people inside Goodes home had been harmed. Officers initially struggled to make contact but ultimately reached the occupants and determined the report was a hoax.
Swatting, a dangerous form of harassment, involves falsely reporting a violent incident to draw armed law enforcement to a victims location. Sheriff Fell said the incident wasted valuable public safety resources and caused needless distress for the family. His office, along with federal authorities, plans to investigate and identify whoever was responsible.
The false report came shortly after Trump posted criticism of Goode and other Indiana Republicans for failing to advance a new congressional map designed to strengthen GOP advantages in the upcoming midterms. State Senate Republican leader Rodric Bray had announced days earlier that there wasnt enough support to pursue new lines.
