AG Bondi (giving cover yet again) is going to state the DOJ is investigating Democrats, so the files can't be released. (DOJ policy, not law).
Trump will say, "I told them to go ahead and release it, so I am not covering anything up and support transparency.

(180 posts)Remember that the files came from Epstein's estate. They have been releasing selected files for some time. The estate will provide a backdrop of accuracy that the DOJ can't delete. So if they alter or destroy evidence, the estate will counter that action. IOW, deleting or altering the files will end up being a bigger headache for Diddling Donny. Epstein's lawyers know that they're dealing with Donny, a career criminal and consummate liar. So they protected the estate by spreading copies of their files in many secure locations.

(14,357 posts)Several off shore oligarchy types have copies of the full facts of the Epstein files.... I think the Congressional copies will get release but sense they will be leaving out lots of clients including tRumpy 's criminal connections...
Then, once Congress lets them loose...oh Lordy the off shore copies unchanged will be release...showing how there has been as cover up in the corrupt administration...
Buckle up...the truth shall be good for those who wait.

(41 posts)Doesn't Trump's DOJ have the Files? They have had plenty of time to DOCTOR(revise) those files. Trump could say all other unoffical copies are: bogus, a hoax, or AI created. How many people have seen the files? Is there any chance the American public will ever see the REAL Epstein files?

(137 posts)Rumor has it that Epstein was pretty heated after tRump went behind his back and bought that FL mansion hed told tRump he was planning to buy (and then turned around and sold it to a Russian oligarch for more than double what he paid - tens of MILLIONS more - and then said oligarch had it bulldozed to the ground to complete the money laundering cycle). After that, Epstein said some very critical things to and about Little Baby Thunderpants and his duplicity, and this hurt Babys fragile feefees. And if you hurt Babys feefees - even if he totally deserves the criticism - he goes nuclear.
In this case, nuclear means dropping a dime on Epstein about his trafficking operations. Epstein himself believed it was tRump who ratted him out.

(332 posts)of what the DOJ Epstein Files are, in comparison to the Epstein Estate files that have already been released.
Who researched, organized and produced the government files? Did it begin in past administrations? Or are we just going to see Trump's DOJ work?
Anybody know the details?

(8,510 posts)For example, transcripts of FBI interviews with those involved during the Epstein investigation and Maxwell investigation and trial. Copies of videos, pictures, etc.. that was discovered during these investigations, testimonies from victims, etc..
That is why I think it is unlikely Trump and his goons will be able to doctor it. Too many documents that can be cross-checked with other sources (victims that are still alive, former prosecutors and investigators, Epstein estate , etc..)

(8,172 posts)If he supported releasing the files, he would just go ahead and release them. The discharge petition/legislation exists only because he refuses to release them on his own. He has full authority to telease them completely on his own at any time. He's telling people to vote for it because he knows it's going to pass and he can't stand to be on the losing side of something. If he really was ok with the files being released, he wouldn't have brought Lauren Boebert into THE SITUATION ROOM! to pressure her to remove her signature. Nor would he have rescinded his support for Marjorie Taylor Greene less 24 hours earlier because of her position on this.

(1,216 posts)They've now had plenty of time to review the docs with a fine toothed comb.
Unless they were previously marked with an ID, so they can identify missing material, they would then have the freedom to cover it all up by destroying the good stuff.
I'm guessing that Trump was finally given the OK to proceed once the data was destroyed.
Makes perfect sense to me.

(128,320 posts)He's buying time. The discharge petition just allows the House to vote on it, then send it to the Senate for a vote, and then to him, and then he can veto it for any reason he might blow out his ass at the time. Maybe the veto could be overridden, but while the process plays out he can buy time to throw out enough chaff or squid ink or wars in Venezuela or whatever to try to make the scandal fade away. I don't think the files will be destroyed because by there is already too much stuff in too many different places, stored on paper and electronically. If they do disappear that would be as big a scandal as the file contents themselves (see also Nixon's 18-1/2 Minutes).

(21,341 posts)In spite of the House vote, we're still a LONG way from the files being released.
Still has to survive a Senate vote.
Still has to survive TSF's veto.
Still has to get 2/3 of the House to override.
Still has to get 2/3 of the Senate to override.
Even THEN, has to survive multiple lawsuits.

(2,305 posts)I see so many people on here and Facebook saying that theyve got Trumps name redacted outta the files enough now so hes in favor of it. But Im inclined to think thats not the case. I would imagine that theres too many people that have seen the files that would know if theyve been doctored. For me I think its the OPs theory or that hes been told by key Republicans that the votes are there to release them anyhow so he needs to look like hes still in charge of the party.
Roc2020
(1,728 posts)But if they release the files with heavy redaction....then Epstein and the files stay in the news...and hopefully the Dems will push to make Epstein stay in the news until the midterms. Find a way to get his name in the news the next 350 days or so.

(247 posts)He figures the "everybody does it" defense - which lessens the negatives against himself, and let's him claim any adverse action against him is a "witch hunt"
Then he orders Bondi to prosecute a few Dems, but deliberately botches the prosecution so they walk free or just a tap on the wrist - which he can then claim as precedence - no prosecution for him either.
