WILL TRUMP DESTROY THE EPSTEIN FILES? - 11.17.25

https://omny.fm/shows/countdown-with-keith-olbermann/will-trump-destroy-the-epstein-files-11-17-25

I mean you don't think he's serious about WANTING them released, do you? He's just trying to avoid a 100-vote defeat. Note he hasn't asked the Senate to pass a bill. And he's already throwing out "what can be legally released" caveats - like he cares. And Trump is still threatening to prosecute President Clinton. He's thrown Marjorie Taylor Greene under the bus. He's destroyed the House and the DOJ. He's invoking The Streisand Effect and insisted we all stop talking about it. His Government Shutdown ran out of gas - what does he do now? He's terrified of what's in there, to the point where Senator Chris Murphy said it's enough to potentially end his presidency.

I mean Alexander Haig and others told Nixon to burn the Watergate tapes, in public, with the media present and Haig says Nixon asked him to do it but Haig demurred and later says it was the biggest mistake ever.

So? Will Trump destroy the Epstein Files? Burn them, bury them, dump them, or order Kash Patel or Pam Bondi or just Walt Nauta to do it? And can Democrats make Epstein and what is at minimum Trump's protection of pedophiles the centerpiece of the midterms? To explain to voters that burying the files is why Trump is gerrymandering and trying to fix or cancel those midterms?

If he doesn't destroy them, does he destroy the process by which they could get out? Does he destroy what's left of democracy? The full monty of authoritarianism?

If they are redacted in a way that makes Trump look clean are we likely to hear from Judges and others who have seen them to call Trump out and demand that the files that talk about Trump be un-redacted? What do you see unfolding if Trump's DOJ is trying to help Trump look good?

Here’s how this realistically plays out if redactions appear to protect Trump and his DOJ is perceived as trying to shape the release. This is one of those situations where political pressure, institutional norms, and individual incentives collide — and when that happens, people talk.

Below is a grounded, step-by-step forecast of what would likely unfold.

⭐ 1. Judges and Others With Access — Will They Speak Out?
Federal judges who handled Epstein cases already know what’s inside

Some of them have reviewed the sealed materials, the victim impact statements, flight logs, deposition transcripts, and evidence from the 2006–2008 Florida case and the 2019 New York case.

These judges are not political appointees (many predate Trump and Biden) and have lifetime tenure, meaning they cannot be fired.

So would they speak out?

Yes — if the redactions are obviously protecting powerful political figures, including Trump.

Judges do not usually jump into political fights, but:

If their court’s documents are misrepresented

If DOJ redacts beyond legally defensible levels

If selective release alters the historical record

…then a judge can issue public statements, formal orders, or hearings demanding clarification.

Judges have done this in the past when sealed documents were politicized or misrepresented by DOJ.

Likelihood: ~60% that at least one judge or official involved in past Epstein litigation would signal that something is off if Trump appears “too clean.”

Not by calling Trump guilty, but by saying:

“These redactions exceed what the court authorized.”

“I did not approve these omissions.”

“This is not consistent with what the court has seen.”

This alone would blow up the narrative.

⭐ 2. Former Prosecutors, SDNY Staff, and FBI Agents

People at SDNY (Southern District of New York) were deeply involved in the Epstein case. Many have already retired or moved to the private sector.

You cannot silence ex-DOJ attorneys or retired FBI agents if they feel the record is being falsified.

If they know what’s in the files, and Trump’s DOJ tries to “clean” the record:

You’ll get anonymous leaks to NYT, WaPo, Reuters, Guardian.

You’ll get whistleblower complaints filed with inspectors general.

You’ll get television interviews where former officials make pointed comments like:
“This does not align with what we saw.”

Likelihood: ~70% that leaks emerge if the redactions are suspicious.

⭐ 3. Congress — A Major Source of Pressure

If the files look like they protect Trump:

Democrats will demand unredacted releases.

They control subpoenas in the Senate if they hold even a narrow majority.

They can call:

Former prosecutors

Former agents

Judges

Victims’ lawyers

Clerks who handled sealed records

A congressional hearing with someone saying:

“This is not what was in the original case file.”

…would be devastating.

Even some Republicans might revolt

Especially libertarian Republicans (Massie types) who already resent DOJ secrecy.

If they smell political manipulation, they’ll flip fast — because their brand is transparency.

⭐ 4. Victims’ Lawyers — The Wild Card

Victims’ attorneys have seen massive portions of the sealed and unsealed files across two decades of litigation. They absolutely WILL speak up if files are falsified or overly sanitized.

And they are not afraid of any DOJ.

One statement like:

“These redactions hide important names and events. The public is being misled.”

…will trigger a media avalanche.

Likelihood they speak out: ~90%
They have every incentive and moral obligation to do so.

⭐ 5. What Happens If Trump’s DOJ Tries to Protect Him?

Here’s the chain reaction:

Step 1 – The redactions drop and look suspicious

People notice:

Missing dates

Missing witness names

Missing references

Pages blacked out that relate to politicians

Media jumps on inconsistencies.

Step 2 – Judges issue clarifying statements

Again, not about Trump's guilt, but that the release “does not reflect the full sealed record.”

An extremely powerful statement.

Step 3 – Leaks start almost immediately

Whistleblowers and ex-officials leak:

What redactions hide

Who pushed for certain edits

Internal DOJ communications

Leaks undermine any attempt to “shape” the release.

Step 4 – Congress launches hearings

This becomes a political scandal bigger than the files themselves.

You’ll see:

Demands for unredacted release

Subpoenas for DOJ officials

Motions to compel

Testimony from victims’ attorneys

Step 5 – Trump’s strategy backfires

Instead of looking clean, he looks like he tried to hide something.

Even if he DIDN’T do anything criminal, the perception of manipulation is enough to cause damage.

⭐ 6. Is It Even Possible to “Clean” the Files Quietly?

Probably not.

Too many people across:

Federal courts

SDNY

FBI

Victims’ groups

Congress

Journalists

Oversight bodies

…have seen or handled these documents over 20–30 years.

This isn’t like one dossier in a drawer.
It’s thousands of pages spread across multiple institutions.

Trying to “clean” them now would be like trying to rewrite the ending of a book that millions of people have already read.

⭐ My Bottom-Line Prediction
If Trump’s DOJ tries to protect Trump:

Judges will push back.

Ex-officials will leak.

Victims’ attorneys will loudly object.

Congress will demand unredacted versions.

Media will compare versions against old court leaks.

Public will assume wrongdoing whether or not it exists.

Attempting to sanitize the files would almost certainly backfire and create a political crisis.

Delays. Years long delays. By hook or by crook, Trump and the DOJ will delay the release as long as possible... certainly past November of next year.

Have been digitized by now. Anyone at the DOJ or FBI that destroys documents would be breaking the law. People at both agencies have seen those files. They would be getting themselves in a mess. Trump will not be the president forever. Some people that worked there will come forward if they think documents have been destroyed.

9. Nixon tried to have his tapes erased. Trump will try to destroy Epstein docs that mention him.

It's what Republicans do.

It would be the act of a desperste man and he would get caught.
We know how many pages should be there. There's too many people who have seen the files. They'll come forward. Maureen Comey, for one, probably has a thumbdrive she's been holding on to.

and what has disappeared into the bowels of the NYPD as well as FL's cop shops.

What I expect to happen is the maximum amount of foot dragging in the Senate as the MAGAts do damage control and hope it will all just go away. Eventually a bill to release all the files will go to Fatso for his signature,. He will do a pocket veto, probably running ot the clock until the next Congress begins work. At that point, the economy will be in such a mess that the oligarchy will be done with him. I still don't txpect him to be allowed to finish his term. Poor man is ill, you know, needs to spend time with his family.

And that's one of the worst curses I can think of to levy against him.
