Margaret Brennan to Tom Suozzi: "Can you explain the focus this past week in the House by Democrats on the Jeffrey Epstein files? Is this a tactic to distract from the failure to extract healthcare changes?”

Jared Golden of Maine
Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington
Adam Gray of California
Don Davis of North Carolina
Henry Cuellar of Texas
Tom Suozzi of New York

Suozzi is a constant attacker (at times via open red-baiting and/or pushing RW talking points) of the left in our Party. If he was a poster on DU he would quickly be banned for attacking Democrats.

Example:

Mamdani, AOC and other DSA members should leave party: Dem Rep. Tom Suozzi insists

https://www.aol.com/mamdani-aoc-other-dsa-members-203918818.html

Democratic Socialist of America members — including New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — should leave the Democratic Party and create their own, Rep. Tom Suozzi said.

“Zohran Mamdani and other Democratic Socialists should create their own party because I don’t want that in my party,” Suozzi, a Democrat, said of the far left policies on CBS New York’s “The Point” show with Marcia Kramer that aired Sunday.

Suozzi — whose third congressional district includes parts of Queens as well as Long Island — also said he hopes “he [Mamdani] doesn’t win” the mayoralty because “it will be bad for the Democratic Party.”

And he said House Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries should not endorse Mamdani, the party’s nominee for City Hall, because it will “be bad for the Democratic Party nationwide.” Suozzi endorsed Andrew Cuomo in the June Democratic primary — but Mamdani handily defeated the former governor to cinch the party’s nomination.

He wants to be the first Italian-American president.

He also represents a district on Long Island where I lived for 25 years. There are lots of Republicans there and I’m sure he is trying to play both sides.

Two examples of his lust for power. First, in 2006, he challenged the leading Democratic candidate for governor of New York, Elliot Spitzer, in the Democratic primary. Since Spitzer already had pretty much sewn up the nomination, Suozzi’s rebellion was a fool’s errand and he got crushed. Yet many local Democrats were pissed at the divisiveness of his campaign since Spitzer faced a tough general election. Since Spitzer had to resign as governor because of a sex scandal a couple of years later, (sound familiar, Andrew Cuomo?), one wonders how things would be if Suozzi had won.

Second, in 2021, he challenged sitting Democratic governor Kathy Hochul in the primary where he came in a dismal third place. Once again, he pissed off many state-wide Democrats.

I’m tempted to call him a DINO but I recognize the political tight rope he has to balance on. Personally, he’s a very nice guy with a wonderful family, (one of his sons was in my Scout troop when I was a leader), and he is usually on the right side of the issues. But his naked ambition will keep him from attaining his fanciful goals.

Fun fact: He had been elected to Congress from this district but he did not seek re-election in 2022 since he was running for the Democratic primary for governor. Long Islanders then elected George Santos instead! Suozzi re-attained his seat after a special election following Santos’ ejection from Congress.

I like the guy but he’s frustrating with his middle-of-the-road stances. Still, he’s a Democrat.
