The Epstein vote, the odds of a Trump veto, and the odds of 2/3 of Congress overriding it

I'm not going to be a pessimist over this, but as someone who lived through "Fitzmas" and "The Mueller Report," I'm not taking a victory lap until the situation warrants one. Trump can make a lot of threatening phone calls before Tuesday, and even more if his veto becomes a reality. I think this has to pass with a veto-proof majority the first time, or it won't pass at all.

Trump may end up facing a veto-proof revolt when it comes to the Epstein files, according to a MSNOW panel.

MSNOW's The Weekend took questions from viewers on Sunday, including one individual who tried to pour cold water on the upcoming Epstein release vote.

"Any vote to release Epstein files will be vetoed by Trump, then sent back to the House and Senate, where it will require a two thirds majority to override the veto in both chambers. Isn't it folly to think that these will ever be released?" the viewer asked. "No way will two thirds of them vote to override his veto."

assuming it passes the House and Senate and goes to Trump...

The bill only promises to release "unclassified" documentation related to the Epstein investigation.

You can bet that much of the damaging material will suddenly become classified.

...I'm no expert, but I am assuming she can determine how much of that material is "related to an ongoing investigation," and therefore cannot be released. And the investigation could last 3 years, if she wanted it to. Who's going to stop her?

then goes to the Senate, it will need 67 votes to keep it from a Trump veto. If Trump does veto it, it goes back to the house, and the house will also need a super majority vote to override Trump's veto?

Is that right?

9. Trump can veto it no matter what the vote is

Even if a veto proof majority votes for it in either or both houses, he could veto out and then it would turn on whether any of those who voted for it initially switch their position and don't vote to override.

My guess is that the resolution to have a vote gets a ton of support. But that the subsequent vote on the bill itself falls short of a veto proof majority. The vast majority of repubs are in safe seats and won't be afraid to vote against release of the files.
