Bill Maher is using his platform to promote billionaires' Democratic Socialism fearing message because of Zohran Mamdani's effective deconstruction of a failed economic system in digestible form.

He certainly can't say anything to jeopardize that. And I'm sure he has the best healthcare money can buy. He just plays a democrat for TV. Every once in a while, the true Maher comes out.
I quit watching this loser years ago.

(2,832 posts)By the way, you could have easily found a reasonable estimate of his net worth by investing 30 seconds of your time in an online search. Yet when someone who actually DOES their homework corrects you, you respond with "he must have spent it on smoke". Really, that's it?
What exactly is your point, beyond that "he has the best healthcare money can buy"?
Care to elaborate?

(32,042 posts)It captures what he ought to look like at this point---after years of crazed liberal-bashing, trump-whoring debauchery. Talk about somebody who's stayed way past his time.

(1,307 posts)...which tells me he's on the right track. We have people who are trying to justify greed is being a normal component of capitalism, and it's not. Adam Smith believed greed is one of the things that would lead to the failure of capitalism, and greed and self-interest are not the same thing. How foolish are we to allow a person to be paid $1 trillion while we have people who work every day relying on SNAP and food banks? How can any rational person not believe we need a national health policy that would make health care in this country just as affordable as it is in other Western-style countries?
How can so many people who are one paycheck or one illness away from financial disaster be so indoctrinated that they fight against their own self-interests and the well-being of their loved ones to keep the ultra-rich from making their fair contribution to our society? As long as we remain ignorant enough to let the ultra-rich get away with taking more from our country while contributing proportionately less than the middle-class, we deserve what we get.

(3,067 posts)"socialism" takes the blame, but maybe stalin and mao killed people because they were authoritarians imposing "shock and awe" from similar playbooks to proj 2025.

(13,644 posts)But they're completely different. And Bill Maher is 100% right.
I'm glad we're the Democratic Party. We've got the right idea (more like Social Democracy). The idea of "seizing the means of production," is the Democratic Socialist idea, and it's tragic how plausible it sounds, while being impossible. It's grasping at straws. It makes for a huge self-grifting CF that steers us to a well-known dead end. Corruption, murder, mass poverty. They're all predictable as obvious.
We really need more authentically virtuous people to step up to the plate and help refocus and unconfuse more folks. Competence. Toughness. Compassion. Courage. Brains. We have a lot of those folks in the Democratic Party. I really wish Bernie would come over to the Democrats. He seems like he is getting closer.

(114,207 posts)because he's getting old and grumpy and people under 40 have left him WAY behind and he's particularly resentful about that.
So he talks to the fake lefties who went through the 60s having read the Manifesto without reading any farther and think they have a clue.
I don't know if younger people are better read or if his "I know best because I'm old" act is getting nowhere with them. I'm just glad people my age have also noticed what a threadbare old gasbag he is these days.
