"Progressive" churches in the area on human rights issue and other "left wing" concerns.
It's the right wing evangelicals and holy rollers who are giving Christianity a bad name.
As as person of Jewish faith, I know how this feels to be vilified unjustly.

Of course the churches that we work with aren't necessarily progressive - just Christian.

We were sitting eating lunch one day when a few evangelical girls who were in a religious class he was taking, came over and started trying to debate him.

I remember him saying to them, "do you ever notice all you ever quote is the old testament? You might want to consider reading the New Testament. You know, the one that deals with what Jesus Christ taught us. The person whom Christianity was founded on." They huffed and stalked off. I high fived him. He said he considered the New Testament like a codicil to a will, in this case, the will being the Old Testament. It changed a lot of things.

The man in this Reuters photo is Rev. Michael Woolf.

In video recorded on Nov. 14 outside the embattled U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Broadview, Illinois, the Rev. Michael Woolf stands alongside fellow protesters, fiddling awkwardly with his backpack as faith leaders and other protesters chant slogans at a line of police officers. A moment later, one officer can be seen walking forward, grabbing Woolf by the wrist and yanking.

Demonstrators attempted to hold on to Woolf, who was wearing a clerical collar, but four officers wrenched him from the crowd and tossed him to the ground. After turning him onto his stomach, officers proceeded to arrest Woolf, and removed him to the Cook County Sheriff's Office in Maywood, Illinois.

"I've got bruises all over my body," Woolf, an American Baptist minister who is pastor of Lake Street Church of Evanston, Illinois, told Religion News Service. He was speaking in his first interview since being released Nov. 14 afternoon after about seven hours in custody.

Woolf said when he asked the arresting officers to loosen the plastic handcuffs that were causing his hands to go numb, an officer replied: "Nobody wants to talk to you — shut the f–k up."

goons are so unprofessionally abusive. Watched a video the other day that showed officers yanking a young woman from the driver's seat of her SUV. Two big apes were each holding one of her legs and her tail end slammed from the car seat right down to the pavement. It had to be painful and possibly injured her.

Similarly, what right do they have to wreck your car or home -- just slashing out the windows -- without knowing whether the occupants are even guilty of anything?

Where are the lawyers who can file suits against the government, whether its local, state or feds?

I caregive for an elderly man who has dementia and luckily he's Democratic and has been all his life. I was telling him about this particular incident and he starts laughing and like he didn't believe me and asked me where this happened at. Some of what's happening today is so insane I don't think that he believed me until I showed him this video.

I had to explain it's happening all over the country. I had to use my phone to look up this particular event and I explained that the mom was in her locked vehicle in the pick up lane at an elementary school when this happened. She had I.D. but ICE didn't care until they threw her on the ground first.

I also told my client that I'm banking that most ICE agents are pardoned insurrectionists without any LEO training.

ICE was just in Elmwood in Buffalo about a day or two ago and Buffalo is a diverse neighborhood. I would imagine since Buffalo leans Democratic that they're still in Buffalo harassing people.

I believe that anyone who is protesting these violent goons are what our beloved John Lewis would refer to as "Good Trouble."
I applaud and support them for fighting against racism.

purposely hateful. She isn't the first I've seen get picked up and thrown to the ground. When did it get heroic to pick up women and slam them around? There should be a mental test before some men are permitted to wear a uniform or badge of any sort. Once they're "official" they become idiots.

I've been asking months on end: Where are the legitimate faith leaders, those who still follow a code of morality, love and forgiveness?

Well, now they've arrived. Each photograph like the one above is both infuriating but a powerful reminder of how out of control ICE has become and how antithetical to the Christian message these assaults truly are.

Hattip to this clergyman and all the others of different denominations and faiths who are willing to put their bodies on the line for the sake of others. This is what faith looks like as opposed to the false piety and/or lack of empathy Trumpers embrace.
