ICE stuffed people into UHaul Trucks??!? Why isn't UHaul forbidding this??!!

https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=20692199

U-Haul shouldn’t want to be associated with this.

People need to let them know that they should issue a policy forbidding transportation of people in the back of their vehicles. People who were placed there and injured should sue UHaul too. As a former and possible future customer I will not use them again if they don’t.

Let UHaul know!!

2. I think they already have that policy...

...as I seem to remember it during the numerous U-Haul trips between home and college for our daughters.

But it's not like U-Haul asks you what you're going to do with the truck, so they would have no way of knowing when they rent the truck.

5. Does the article say they were transported in the vans?

Seems like they may have been used as holding cells. Still deplorable, but if correct, it's going to be harder for UHaul to forbid that vs. transporting people. I would imagine they already have rules that you can't drive with people in the cargo area. The real problem though of course is that nobody will stop these fascists from doing anything they want

6. Fact-check first, please. The vans do not appear to be from UHaul.

The vans pictured appear to be from Budget Truck Rental, not UHaul. It appears that someone was using the brand name UHaul to generically refer to rental vans.

Second, it isn't clear that they were used for detained individuals - what is pictured are ICE agents in the vans.

Budget should cancel contracts for this violation, but they won't. Too much $$$.

8. Blaming/pressuring UHaul - as the OP suggests - is stupid if UHaul isn't involved.

In all of the pictures I can find, the only van with an identifiable logo is from Budget Truck Rental.

It's like the internet mob review bombing the wrong person/business because some internet detective identified the wrong person/business as being involved in something offensive. There is a significant cost involved in being the innocent victim of internet mis-identification. We shouldn't be adding to that.

And (back to the fact checking) - it isn't clear detainees were even put into the vans, let alone transported. In all of the pictures I can find, the only people in a van are ICE agents.

9. Again -- need to check the rental contract. If Budget says "not for passengers", it doesn't matter who they are.

Quite possibly, ICE demanded a waiver, or special permission from Anus Orange, but if they didn't, Budget has cause to terminate and refuse further contracts.

10. The article says UHaul trucks .... fact check yourself.

"Just hours after President Donald Trump said U.S. soldiers should use America's cities as “training grounds,” federal law enforcement officials on Tuesday night descended upon an apartment complex in Chicago where witnesses say they broke down residents’ doors, smashed furniture and belongings, and dragged dozens of them — including children — into U-Haul vans.”

13. I know what the article says -

But whoever said that appears to be using U-Haul generically, even though it is a brand name. Look at the pictures.

Those letters and that typeface match Budget Truck Rentals - not U-Haul.

17. You've been proven wrong -- the AUTHOR cited U-Haul -- and you're doubling down .... *sigh*

Also the same goes for Budget if they are involved.

The images in every article I could find, as well as still images I could find, only had Budget logos. I didn't review many videos, but the same was true of the videos I did review.
