The U.S. president is declaring war on cities because they represent a positive, multicultural alternative to MAGA

Trump’s war on cities is part of his ugly vision for America
The U.S. president is declaring war on cities because they represent a positive, multicultural alternative to MAGA

(Salon) He is not a complicated man, the president of the United States. Donald Trump is a 79-year-old who is going on 14, displaying without filter all the disordered thinking of a child reared in the insular bubble of wealthy, white America.

“I call it the N-word,” the American head of state said in remarks to the nation’s admirals and generals, speaking about a decision to deploy nuclear-powered submarines off the coast of Russia. “There are two N-words, and you can’t use either of them.”

He was greeted with steely silence, but the joke, if it was that, might well have killed in the classroom of a suburban high school.

To say that Trump operates on the level of a median racist adolescent is not intended as a cheap shot, but analysis that goes further in contextualizing his actions — and his success in politics — than the sort of explainers-for-liberals popular in his first term. We are well beyond the point of credibly arguing this is all about NAFTA.

....(snip)....

It is more difficult to appeal to people’s better natures. But that also isn’t reason to despair: in cities across America, whatever their faults, majorities have assembled multiracial coalitions based on tolerance and mutual respect. And while American history is defined by swings between its progressive and reactionary ids ֫— the latter now putting on a pathetic show of its dominance — comfort can be taken, for now, in that these swings do not last forever.

Still, the future is not now. Trump and his coalition may only have the approval of the 4 in 10 Americans who view life through the dynamics and slights of the high school cafeteria, but the fragility of its power does not appear to be recognized at the top. A majority of white Americans is the only majority that appears to matter and for whom this administration is governing. And it is mobilizing the full force of the federal government in a self-described “war” against the “enemy within,” as Trump told those he perceives as his own generals, to ensure that minority majority can remain in power in the absence of true popular support. .....................(more)

It's clear his father's extremist Klan views had a profound effect on little Donnie. Trump's speeches would be well received at local klaverns throughout the country.

If cities are damaged too heavily, it will also harm suburbs and rural areas. But cities contain large concentrations of people who recognize Trump's corrupt buffoonery, so Trump wants revenge. And his cult cannot comprehend or refuse to comprehend how it will also hurt them.

7. Trump and Musk* are @ war with people of color both in America and around the war too.

The idea that Trump can use the n****r word in front of a room full of all of our Military’s flag officers
many of whom are people of color crosses so many lines of what it is to be an American and simple
human decency. And then goes on to talk about using the U.S. military to fight what he calls “the war
within” which in other words is a war on the American people and or people who live in America in
order to fulfill his goal of keeping America white.

* Trump and Musk’s killing of USAID has resulted in the death of > 1,000,000 black Africans.

9. MaddowBlog-As the White House targets blue states, Democratic senator condemns 'mafioso tactics'

Team Trump isn't just targeting individual foes; it's also using the government shutdown to seek revenge against programs and entire states.

Before the shutdown, Team Trump used government power to retaliate against individuals.

During the shutdown, Team Trump is using government power to retaliate against whole states.

No wonder a Democratic senator condemned the “mafioso tactics.” www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

Things are different in his second term. As The New York Times summarized:

The Trump administration took steps on Wednesday to maximize the pain of the government shutdown, halting billions of dollars in funds for Democratic-led states while readying a plan to lay off potentially droves of civil servants imminently. The moves by the White House appeared both unprecedented and punitive, underscoring the risks of a fiscal stalemate that had no end in sight. It also evinced how President Trump might try to leverage the governmentwide closure to achieve his agenda, slash the budget and exact revenge on his political enemies.

Americans have been confronted with an avalanche of examples in recent months of the Trump administration using the levers of power to exact revenge on the president’s perceived political foes, but most of these instances have involved campaigns against individuals (see, for example, James Comey, Fani Willis, Letitia James, Adam Schiff, John Brennan, John Bolton and, of course, Joe Biden)....

But with the federal government shut down, the Republican White House is pursuing more expansive abuses, targeting programs and entire states.

The Times’ report added, “In a series of social media posts, Russell T. Vought, the White House budget director, said the administration had paused or moved to cancel the delivery of about $26 billion in previously approved funds across a range of programs, describing the money as wasteful or in need of further review.”

In an especially glaring example, Vought used social media to declare, “Nearly $8 billion in Green New Scam funding to fuel the Left’s climate agenda is being cancelled.”

......Vice President JD Vance treated the developments like a joke.

DOOCY: Does the timing of this indicate you going to squeeze Schumer's home state until he blinks?

JD VANCE: I'm sure that Russ Vought is heartbroken about the fact that he's unable to give certain things to certain constituencies

Democrats were not amused. In fact, one Democratic senator drew a parallel between the White House’s moves and an organized crime syndicate.

“We’re less than a day into this shutdown, and Trump [and] Vought are illegally punishing Democrat-led states,” Sen. Patty Murray of Washington wrote online. “This administration is clearly salivating at the opportunity to hurt people and using the shutdown they caused as the pretext to do it. These mafioso tactics will not work.”
