In Italy, which saw a general strike in support of the flotilla last month, thousands turned out in cities across the country to back the Global Sumud Flotilla, which consists of more than 40 civilian boats carrying about 500 parliamentarians, lawyers and activists including Greta Thunberg.
Protests were also reported in Brussel, Athens, Buenos Aires and Berlin, while the Spanish government called on Israel to protect the safety and rights of activists.
In Rome, hundreds chanting lets block everything gathered in front of the citys Termini station, prompting authorities to limit access and close some metro stops. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched in Milan, Turin and Genoa, while protesters in Naples and Pisa briefly occupied station platforms and blocked trains. Thousands also gathered in Bologna carrying banners and flags.

(11,991 posts)Israel for obvious reason does not want unexamined cargo delivered to Gaza as soon it would be hidden shipments of weapons from Iran etc.

(11,200 posts)That the aid would ever reach them. Why would they trust Israel to do that when the international community has verified there is an active famine in Gaza?
Literally the only people saying there is no starvation is Israel and the US.
Netanyahu literally said at the UN that there will never be a Palestinian state. That there will never be a two state solution. I think that makes their intentions clear.

(11,200 posts)I'm done. Not getting into this discussion yet again.
There are people that believe that Israel can never do anything wrong and I cannot change that and no amount of debate is going to change that.

(510 posts)go to Israel is not a helpful solution. The point of the flotilla is to get the food and medicine actually delivered to Gaza. Israel has plenty of access to food and medicine, so they do not need what is on the boats. The point of the boats is it is a way to get the food and medicine TO THE PEOPLE WHO NEED IT.
So, no, of course, Israel allowing it to be delivered to themselves is not helpful at all.
They could inspect and disembark if no weapons are found and let other people try to accomplish providing aid.

(6,385 posts)This is a general strike called by CGIL, not just to sub- and smaller unions. Meloni, with her usual wit, announces that "Non vogliono pace, ma il weekend lungo" ("They don't want peace, but a long weekend" ).
