It is not the responsibility of Jeffries or Schumer to fund the government. They are minority leaders.
I think it is problematic that our leadership has framed this as a negotiation, that they want to sit at the table, etc.
There is no way for us to win. We shouldn't be involved. It isn't the job of the minority to buttress the majority's whip count.
Jeffries and Schumer being in the news, and pretending that they have real leverage gives the illusion that this will end with winners. It will not. There will be loser or more losers.
Vote no. We want no part of a government that arrests without due process. We want no part of a government that doesn't exalt free speech. We want no part of a government that deports citizens.
As a side point - why do we broadcast our votes? Isn't that tactically disadvantageous?

(57,328 posts)funding, that's your problem. If you vote to shut the government down, that's your decision. We have nothing to do with it.
BUT if you can't all agree, and you need our votes to keep the government open, you'll need to give us stuff in return. If you don't, that's your problem and your decision to shut the government."

(2,042 posts)Instead because of truly bad politics, and sensational lack of self-awareness, our leadership has placed us in a situation where Democrats will own at least a part of the government shut down because they insisted to be at the table.
What happens when you sit at a table with Nazis?
This has been mismanaged yet again.
Let the GOP *fail* first, publically, before going on the news. Then white knight it all you want.
I am personally very disappointed with the strategic capacity of our leadership. Schumer is no Reid. Jeffries is no Pelosi.

(56,824 posts)It's voting to sustain the government without significant concessions that infuriates me.

(2,042 posts)Publically negotiating with a party known for bad faith does nothing but demonstrate a lack of insight and an unwillingness to accept the gravity of the situation (publically and therefore with political consequences).
