September 29, 2025 at 6:46 am EDT By Taegan Goddard
Crucial contracts and grants havent been approved, caught up in layers of new bureaucracy. A wave of senior staff departed the agency when Elon Musks Department of Government Efficiency offered buyouts, taking decades of experience with them. Around 400 FEMA employees have been detailed to work at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as that agency rapidly expands. And the administration has started dismantling the agencys disaster-response infrastructure, which was strengthened in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

(8,451 posts)lose food support, millions could die globally due to USAID cuts...environmental air/water disasters...climate change...likely ethnic cleansing in several arenas.
Yet headlines and editorial pages have yet to put together a comprehensive analysis of the overall consequences...and certainly the GOP is aware yet complicit. Foreign outlets such as the guardian and independent offer much more objective articles. At home...cautious accounts of the latest shooter, Comey, criticism of Harris's book, shutdown, Eric Adams.
The beginning of this happened a while ago...we may be mid-course but still without knowing where we are going.

(14,641 posts)They only recognize at most a couple thousand people as actual individuals, and those are generally their friends or people they do business with.
Everyone else is fungible. Talk to them about a million people, or even ten million people, and that's about the amount of people they can conceive there should be in the world for them to remain comfortable.
They are not concerned about the billion + others, because they honestly don't think those individuals affect them. They live somewhere else, they're someone else's "problem".

(30 posts)FEMA directs disaster response and has oversight of state and regional fire and rescue and recovery organizations. Without FEMA, these organizations will each have to hire additional people for outreach and coordination of planning and training. And who will distribute federal funds and supplies? Oh, I guess that's not going to happen.
