IMHO, MAGA overreach reveals the death-throes of thousands of years of patriarchal privilege
In other words, there's nothing surprising about the immoral and illegal lengths men and even some women will go to in order to maintain their whilte christian male privilege. I wouldn't expect them to just shrug and give up without a deadly fight, and orange menace just happened to provide them the firebrand they needed.
For something like 20 or 30,000 years women have been little more than chattel, property. Men were the half of the population that dominated the other half. Then, when you carve out minorities, you've got the tyranny of the minority: White straight christian men.
Well, that's over now. Between the rights and financial clout of women, and the rise of blacks and hispanics among society's powerful leaders, white straight christian men are now the minority and they're terrified.
They truly believe they are entitled to privilege and they'll burn everything down rather than surrender their status.
We, the normal sane regular people have to stand up to all the lawlessness and say loudly: "No! This is not normal and we're not letting it slide. " Show up at the protests and keep writing to your reps. Tell them you don't accept maga overreach and we're not backing down!

I've done my genealogy back to '1600s and found it so frustrating to be unable to go back all my lines because of no maiden name for the wife. Even though she had 16 children and died young. Then the widower remarried and had another big family. Then, sometimes, that wife passed and he remarried and had even more children! 
And yes, it appears to us that they were looked at as nothing more than chattel.
