...that would not only be USEFUL, but also something he would HATE? Something that would make Stephen Miller throw the grand mother of all tantrums?
I'd leave the structure standing, but I'd gut the inside to remove the gold and marble and any other Saddam Hussein "bling" he added. I'd start with four walls and that's it.
How about a hall to HONOR THE CONTRIBUTIONS of non-white athletes and Civil Rights figures that Trump had expunged from government websites?
I'd isolate every good thing in this country that Trump and Miller and his goons TORE DOWN, and make it the focal point. NAME it after Jesse Owens or Rosa Parks or any other prominent figure who wasn't a white "conservative" and found themselves erased from the history books by Trump.
And yes, I would restore Jackie Kennedy's Rose Garden.
But the "ballroom" has potential.

How about a food pantry
. a performing arts center that reflects our nations diversity, an educational center focused on voting rights and civil rights
.. a place for social justice leaders to give speeches
..

Absolutely that ugly cement food court patio should be restored back to Jackies beautiful rose garden.

(60,565 posts)Remove the gilt that will likely be there and replace it with the quiet tasteful molding similar to what the White House had. Then restructure the huge room to be a more moderate dining room for state dinners and a White House museum could fill the rest.
Many smaller museums have areas people can use for weddings etc. This could, especially if redone specifically to support it, work nicely as a museum and a place for state dinners.
Trump size is probably way too large as it would lose the intimacy, for lack of a better word, of previous state dinners. Remember that some past state dinners were in large tents on the ground that probably will be where the ballroom is.
This would be a gracious way to create a space more in keeping with the White House, but using what can be used. What I still would not like is that the design creates a building higher than the White House. As the White House is iconic, it would be better if the addition were done in a way that made it not visible from the front. That does not seem to be the plan.
The other hard thing to do is to get rid of the patio that looks more like a generic patio around a resort pool. The grace and beauty of the rose garden added to the White House. The patio cheapens it.

(266 posts)A God awful monstrosity tacked on to a lovely building. Let Habitat for Humanity come in and salvage all the building material they can, then bulldoze the building and return the South Lawn to exactly that, a lawn.

collect dust and rot in perpetuity. Make it a memorial to the consequences of unregulated greed. Designate it a national monument to shame.

(34,373 posts)Flimsy, mostly glass walls, a huge roof with no support from underneath. The first big snow, and down it comes. And, I'm sure it will be the same cheap materials and shoddy construction we see in all of his other properties. Just do the country a favor, and tear the damn thing down--if it ever gets built. It will be a liability, as much as it will be an eyesore.
