Maga Mike's only move to stop Grivalea daughter's swear-in and stop the Epstein files vote is to shut down the govt

...effectively, by shutting down Congress again for any votes and delaying her swearing-in.

...the situation:

Adelita Grijalva wins special election to replace her father

Grijalva, 54, was widely expected to beat Republican Daniel Butierez, 58, for the seat left vacant in March following the death of her father, Raul Grijalva, the 77-year-old congressman who died from complications of cancer.

Unofficial election results from the office of Secretary of State Adrian Fontes show Grijalva trounced Butierez, securing more than 70% of the vote compared to his 28%.

With her victory, the GOP's hold of the U.S. House of Representatives is whittled to 219-214, giving the Democrats more power in the chamber.

Adelita Grijalva win in US House special election in Arizona, delivering decisive signature for Epstein files push

Democrat Adelita Grijalva has won a special election in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District, which will deliver the decisive signature to the push for a vote to release the Jeffrey Epstein case files.

The race was held to determine who would fill the seat vacated by the late Democratic Rep. Raul Grijalva, who died from cancer in March. Former Rep. Grijalva’s daughter was heavily favored against Republican Daniel Butierez, who ran for the seat against the elder Grijalva in 2024, losing the race by 26 points.

A discharge petition circulated by Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California, needs 218 House members to sign on to force leadership to hold a vote to release the Epstein files. The pair notched their 217th signature earlier this month when Democratic Rep. James Walkinshaw, fresh off winning a special election in Virginia’s 11th District, was sworn in and signed the petition.

Both Grijalva and Butierez told the Arizona Daily Star last week they were committed to signing the Epstein petition if elected. In a statement to CNN, Grijalva said the issue “has definitely come up” on the campaign trail.

...republican Rep. Massie thinks Maga Johnson will be shamed into holding the vote.

Mike Johnson 'in full panic' as Dem win expected to force Epstein voter

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) revealed that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and other Republican leaders were in a "full panic" after a Democratic Party win in Arizona was expected to give him the signatures he needed to force a vote on the release of files on sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The petition has already been signed by every House Democrat and a handful of Republicans, including Reps. Nancy Mace (SC), Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA), and Lauren Boebert (CO).

"They came back and tried to get the four of us to take our names off of the petition," Massie told Semafor on Wednesday. "They asked some of my colleagues who are co-signers. And they actually threatened them politically, not physically."

Massie predicted that Johnson would not use procedural maneuvers to prevent the vote because "there's enough notoriety on this issue that people will know that he's sweeping this under the rug."

"They're going to have a vote. I think they're coming to terms with that," he added. "I'm going to bet the speaker is probably going to hand out hall passes to some congressmen, because this is an 80/20 issue."

...I'm not as sure as Massie is that Trump won't force Johnson to shut the place down rather than take the vote, further delaying action on the files.

how often major problems are either avoided or caused by one vote. I don't know the solution but it sure seems like a major flaw in our system of government.

And Raúl Grijalva was an incredible representative for his constituents. I'm sure that his daughter will follow in his footsteps.

And it goes down in defeat, then what? No problem. There are over 1000 Survivors to turn the tide here..They will have their Epstein clients list assembled soon. It may be the only viable way (as leverage) to force release of the totality of the Epstein files. Expect the victims (aka Survivors) in those files to be redacted of course.

I could be wrong.

The current CR expires at midnight September 30. Last I checked there are no new talks and lawmakers will be out of town.

The shutdown could begin Oct. 1st, the start of the new fiscal year, before Grijalva is sworn in, correct me if I'm wrong.

Would have been nice to take a stand on the CR back in March, correct me if I'm wrong.

Time Matters.

So basically, after the 218 votes they will schedule a vote and then the gop will twist some arms and nothing will happen?
