Until then he remains employed, but his contract won't be renewed. Kimmel wasn't fired either; he still is under contract and presumably is still being paid. If either of them breached their contract by appearing on another network (which is probably a contractual provision), they would be fired for real and probably have to pay the network some kind of penalty or liquidated damages.

I am talking morality, right vs wrong.
We all know they were fired without cause on a moral level.
Trump can play legal warfare all he wants.
We know what he is doing and why.
And what he did was wrong.

(127,439 posts)will control what happens next as far as those particular shows are concerned. Neither Colbert nor Kimmel is likely to defy those realities, but they know public opinion is with them regardless - so they are likely to find a way to keep their voices before the public.
