(13,187 posts)I don't know why he gets mentioned here all the time, why not report on what all the Fox people are doing too.

(28,076 posts)I've found him simply unwatchable for a number of years now.
Which I'm very sorry about. I appreciate all the effort you put into these threads.
I hope Jimmy lands on his feet as well as Bill has, and never turns into a crotchety old man.

(243,908 posts)Back in the day I used to skip it if they had some right-winger I didn't like on the panel, but I'm tougher now.
And I started posting this back in 2017 since whoever posted it would post one of the "bootleg" videos which was gone by the next day. Unfortunately, they no longer upload the whole show, so I do the best I can. I know it's dropped in popularity here, but I still post it for those that don't have HBO and still want to see the show. And there are always laughs since Bill is a comedian after all.

(9,191 posts)So he is still on the same errant tack.
Right before my wife left the room so I could temporarily mute him, he welcomed Tom Homan and I heard his start his usual, "I have to hand it to Republicans, they aren't afraid to come on this show," spiel.
You know why, Bill? Because they don't fear you. They know they can pour out their propaganda with little effective pushback from you. Democrats come on your show as well, but the ones who don't do so skip it because they don't feel you are worth the effort.

(4,576 posts)Maher will push back on the government's draconian maneuvers that constrain free speech on various media outlets.
After what Maher has been through with ABC, it would be surprising if he doesn't weigh in on this.
Rhiannon12866
(243,908 posts)And I was confused since they always have a guest who is interviewed, followed by the panel who discuss current events. However, I could only find the two guests so I'm wondering if Bill is planning a longer monologue since he's been where Jimmy Kimmel is now - though I can't help thinking it would be cool if they could have Jimmy Kimmel himself.

(75,852 posts)3-pot pot pot!, 4-1950s parenting was great, 5-you kids get off my lawn!
*** But I was actually surprised several years ago when he hosted the Dinesh D'SOUZA jerk, who was present on Politically Incorrect when MAHER made the comment that the hijackers of 9-11 were not cowards because of the danger of what they did, which is what the kneejerk hysteria got him off the air for. What he said was plainly just about the physical courage, not about the ideological context.
I don't remember anything about D'SOUZA's appearance post/9-11 and in all the years of MAHER's raw wound nothing he ever said about D'SOUZA playing a part. But in this later appearance, MAHER, who *never* shows any vulnerability no matter whether he's schooled and always blusters back, shockingly went to pieces groveling and whining in front of D'SOUZA. MAHER actually crouched forward in the interview part seat, *supplicatingly*!
MAHER rehashed his having been cancelled by what he said, then practically wept saying to D'SOUZA, paraphrasing here: I got cancelled but I was only supporting/reinforcing/validating what YOU were saying! - like, how snowflakingly UNFAIR!
D'SOUZA sat impassively, no sympathy, no acknowledgment. MAHER had to put himself back together and went on with the show.
*** FUN FACT: D'SOUZA was a boyfriend of Laura INGRAHAM's in their school days at Dartmouth - EWwww for both of them - where they engaged in such lover-ly things as harassing Gay students by Outing them with flyers on trees on campus. For more dirt on them and other wingnuts of that generation, see Blinded by the Right, by our erstwhile nemesis David BROCK who underwent an epiphany and converted to head Media Matters.

(75,852 posts)So at 78 years, have seen a few things that young'uns didn't just because they weren't born yet, no big woof on me. Thanks.
Same goes to deflate MAHER's constant complaining about the younger generations, what a prof said: That somebody complained that the current young generation was rude and ignorant - the kicker being, it was said by a Greek in antiquity.

And I do wonder if when he went to the White House to bend the knee if he agreed to change his coverage of Trump in exchange for being able to stay on the air.

(23,456 posts)Because he had had Kirk on his after show before.
But Maher is a bigot first and foremost, he hates trans people and constantly equates them to pedophiles by saying they're tricking children etc. etc. He thinks gay and trans children are being tricked into being gay and trans and most of them are just trying to be cool with their peers. He and Charlie were very aligned on their views on LGTBQ people.

(104,865 posts)Last week, he told people to stop calling Trump Hitler:
This s*** has to stop too. He went out to dinner I wouldnt have done that in Washington, D.C., OK, Maher said. And people started to gather around him, and they were chanting, Youre the Hitler of our time.
He continued, OK, first of all, a**holes, hes not Hitler, OK? An insult to everybody in the Holocaust to begin with. Second of all, calling somebody Hitler makes it a lot easier to justify things like assassinations. Lets put a s***load of that away, shall we?
https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/tv/articles/bill-maher-issues-blunt-warning-123731695.html
And no, going on to say "it's OK to burn the US flag" does not make him in favour of free speech. He is, I'm sure you'll agree, an idiot for saying "calling somebody Hitler makes it a lot easier to justify things like assassinations".
What. An. Asshole.

Wagner tried valiantly to fight against Manchin and Maher's false equivocation between the Democrats and Republicans but it was to little avail.
Wagner tried to point out how the vitriol has been amplified from the top down in the Trump administrations, and Maher kept trying to interrupt her and "what about" everything she said. It was sickening.
Maher pointed out that Jay Z and Beyonce recently had dinner in Atlantic City with Jarod Kirshner and Ivanka Trump and voiced mock outrage that these ostensible enemies crossed lines to be cordial.
The appropriate comeback should have been, "Oh you're right, Bill. Four ludicrously wealthy folks met for dinner while removed from the hoi polloi. Such progress!"
Then if Manchin piped up, turn to him and ask how his initial net worth of $5 million more than doubled during his time in the Senate.
Then Maher built his final opinion segment on the same point that Kimmel was trying to make and which got him cancelled, which is that people will rush to blame other tribes when something like the Kirk murder happens. But Maher never discussed Kimmel's attempt at the same argument, mainly because he used the GOP slant against Kimmel in his opening monologue. Either Maher missed Kimmel's point, or didn't want to see it. Which makes him either dumb or disingenuous. Neither is a positive asset.
