Labor Day

Has a different memory for me. We did not parties or picnics or any celebration. My mother was a public school teacher and librarian. Back then (in the 50s and 60s) school started after Labor Day. Mother always had work project for us. We labored. It was usually something outside since the yard and growing things were her strength. We built a terrible patio one year...we had no skill.
It was her summer ending goal, once school started there would not be time for a big project.

My late father had been a union member (meat cutter) and we may have talked about that some...we knew the value of unions.

I do not resent the idea that others had parties, I have fond memories.
