Kamala Harris won't run for California governor

LOS ANGELES — Kamala Harris won’t run for California governor, she said Wednesday, forgoing a shot at her home state’s highest post to keep open the possibility of another White House bid in 2028.
“In recent months, I have given serious thought to asking the people of California for the privilege to serve as their governor,” Harris said in a statement. “I love this state, its people, and its promise. It is my home. But after deep reflection, I’ve decided that I will not run for Governor in this election.

That’s too bad, I thought governor could be a good fit.

However I have zero interest in her as a candidate in the 2028 primaries.

She could win primaries only to lose again with people who won't vote for a woman. I want a woman to win but afraid the country at large isn't ready yet.

Being governor here is a tough job (especially with some of the issues we have right now in the state), but it also would give her ample opportunity to butt heads with Trump.

It was very courteous of her to clear the field this early. This will give CA voters every opportunity to evaluate other candidates.

It’s going to be a competitive primary.

But I think there’s a misconception among many that she would have been a shoe-in. Losing the nomination would be pretty humiliating especially having served already as a senator and VP. It would have echoed Nixon’s failed run in 1962.

She was an outstanding state Attorney General. Through that office, she did so much heavy lifting during the Great Recession and ensuing foreclosure crisis. People here have not forgotten. She would have breezed through the primaries and mopped the floor with whatever Republican was fool enough to oppose her.

I like her, but whoever thought it was a good idea to send out multiple emails per day asking for money and her not shutting it downs shows a complete misunderstanding of her base.

The last 30 days of her campaign sucked. Same scripted remarks, nothing new, and the daily emails requesting cash like some annoying solar salesperson even turned me off.

I don't see her as viable and also, it's clear that a new batch of candidates needs to run in the primary and move forward.
She has every right to make her case. I just don't see it going well.

If she comes out of that on top, she earned the nomination. If someone else wins, that's the will of the Dem party.

Maybe she's done with politics. Wouldn't blame her.

I truly hope this is not because she's planning to run in 2028. The country already weighed in on her in the general before. We need to move forward with fresh candidates.

She was VP for 4 years. She can serve on boards, give speeches, speak out. She's earned that right. I hope after all the shit that was piled on her that she is enjoying her life.
