Trump Urges Federal Employees to Talk Religion at Work

Federal employees can display religious items at work, pray in groups while not on duty and encourage co-workers to adopt their faith, according to guidance released Monday by the Office of Personnel Management, which manages the federal civilian workforce, the Washington Post reports.
Applegrove:
So those who resist being converted, or who have a less right wing faith, will be reported on? Later: Also will there be a 'call to prayer' throughout Washington's streets for those who practice various forms of Islam? Because that would fit in with bells ringing.
Later still: will this be an opportunity to explain to evangelicals how most of Trump's policies hurt the poor?

Federal employees can display religious items at work, pray in groups while not on duty and encourage co-workers to adopt their faith, according to guidance released Monday by the Office of Personnel Management, which manages the federal civilian workforce. In a memo titled Protecting Religious Expression in the Federal Workplace, OPM Director Scott Kupor said that the government workforce should be a welcoming place for employees who practice a religious faith.
Allowing religious discrimination in the Federal workplace violates the law, Kupor said in the memo. It also threatens to adversely impact recruitment and retention of highly-qualified employees of faith. Although the core of OPMs guidance on religious expression differs little from past administrations, it presents a substantial shift in that it encourages employees to express their religious beliefs in the workplace, said Stefanie Camfield, associate general counsel and director of human resource services at Engage PEO.
Historically, Camfield said, employers have been advised to keep religious conversation at work to a minimum, noting that the more religion is allowed into the workplace, the more likely it is that differences of opinion are raised. In the current political environment, these types of differences have a way of turning into arguments, Camfield said. In some cases, it leads to outright hostility, which makes it more likely that an employee will feel singled out and discriminated against for their beliefs.
In the memo, Kupor outlined various activities that should not warrant disciplinary action, noting that federal employees may engage in conversations regarding religious topics with fellow employees, including attempting to persuade others of the correctness of their own religious views, provided that such efforts are not harassing in nature. Employees may also encourage their co-workers to participate in religious expressions of faith, such as prayer, to the same extent that they would be permitted to encourage co-workers participate in other personal activities, Kupor stated in the memo.

(501 posts)When I was in the Air Force in 1983 had a group of religious nut bags not like the fact I was catholic try to convert me to their version of Right Wing religion. When I politely told them I was not interested they did not take it to well. Followed me around the base and in the chow hall to preach to me that I was going to hell. One of them was a guy I worked with. Told him to have them back off and leave me alone. He told me no so I went to the squadron first sergeant who investigated. Other people in the barracks told him what was happening. First Sergeant called my coworker into the office and told him if these people did not stop harassing me he would be the one in trouble with the UCMJ. They stopped immediately and avoided me at all costs.
Moral is the military is part of the federal government. We hear all the time about christians in the military preaching to the troops illegally and feel with this new policy the religious nuts will be emboldened. It could be a career killer if you rebuff them.

Or dress like a pirate. Watch the movie "I, Pastafarian," 2019, for an in-depth look at how the noodly appendages of the Flying Spaghetti Monster have touched people throughout the world.

Would love to see someone set up a Santeria shrine in their office. Or a shrine to Satan. Or a shrine for the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Im sure the intent is to promote Christianity, but when you promote religion in the workplace you have to be prepared for people of all religions to pray and proselytize.

(53,833 posts)They want "religion" then give it to them in spades.
Same goes with Trickle Down theory for the economy. A LOT of people still buy into this BS...meaning they are getting rich off of it and duping the zillions of moronic Americans who can't think for themselves, do research, etc. Yet, these victims are always the first to bitch and cry over their own poor choices which contribute to their own demise. Americans are dumber than dirt. Social media and Fux Ruse won.
Fucking religious hypocrites. Half of the serial killers caught and convicted were very involved with religious activities while they murdered tons of innocent people.
Sure, go to church and on the way there kill someone and on the way home from church rape someone. Such moral behavior. Especially the "we love everybody equally" pedo priests. This is why people are finally waking up and saying "screw religion, it is BS". They have become the minority. The "moral minority".
Fuck you RAYGUN!! "Moral majority" my ass! IMMORAL MAJORITY is 100% accurate.
Raygun destroyed the US for 45 years and counting....

(513 posts)Trump is the least religious president in many years. The only time he has ever been seen near a church was when he stood outside one to create a stupid photo op. He claimed to have known people who died on 9/11 but was never seen at any of the funerals. This is the man Trump's cronies keep covering for.

Seriously. I was never out of the broom closet when I was working. I told people that I trusted, because I had been burned early on in my career, during the later Ray-gun years. But if they had pushed Christianity in my face like this, I'd have gone full Witch-Bitch on them. Of course, I'd have probably been DOGEd already.

Make Westboro Baptist church look like slackers.
Emphasize put-to-death punishments as quoted in the Bible.
Emphasize divorce/remarriage/adultery consequences. That will hit home to many.
........... Jesus talked in detail about that.
Go into great detail on some of the seamier Bible topics.
Let them start off first.
That way, you are participating in their conversation, not harassing them.
Offer/insist that you help them in their mission to convert others.

They would not hire you unless you went to church. So I went to the church du jour. As soon as I got my clearance and job. Told the church I couldn't go since my job schedule conflicted. I was put in for the job by the state representative.
