I guess I'm not a true American patriot

I abhor the Israeli genocide and its support by the current US administration. Further, the way this administration is vilifying US immigrants is absolutely horrendous. In the view of the current administration, I should be censored or worse for my point of view.

I’m an elderly white male whose genealogy in Ameri(k)a goes back to the 1600’s European pilgrimage….even further if I take into account my Native American contribution. I don’t feel threatened by immigration or progressive views…..just the opposite; the conservative, paranoid white neochristian idiots are a cancer in our society. I guess I’m one of the ‘woke’ intellectuals happy not to be part of the anti woke, hypocritical moronic crowd with their head in the sand.

I want America to lead our planet with a compassionate ideology supportive of human rights and stewardship of our fragile environment. Otherwise, we are in for a gruesome future. Although my hope is waning, it’s still there for my kids and grandkids.

Stand up to the BS.

A true patriot is loyal to the country and not to any individual, cult, or party. A true patriot is loyal to the country's ideals including universal suffrage, the rights of all, and the understanding that we are a nation of emigrants.

I'm 80. Born (1944) and reared in deep south Mississippi in the 1950's -- as a white kid, I was on the good side of the color line, Jim Crow did not bother me.

At age 11, when my little rural town was about the feel the effects of Brown v Board of Education, the preacher at our Baptist church preached from the pulpit that "The idea the little white children should go to school with little Negro children is a lie from Satan." I was not too sure of that.

At age 18 I left and have never looked back. As a college student in Alabama in the 1960's I marched in B'ham, Montgomery, and Selma. And now all that is being crushed.

I lie awake nights worrying about the country my two grandsons will grow up in.

At my age I may live another 15 minutes or another 15 years. But whatever it is, I WILL NOT "GO SOFTLY INTO THAT DARK NIGHT."

righteousness like a never-failing stream!

One who aspires for America to live up to our ideals and potential, and who knows we are at our best when we do, and that makes life better for us all.

Our life is not zero sum, where one group winning means another loses. No, when one group rises we rise together.
