"Every Lie We Tell Incurs a Debt to the Truth" - (Chernobyl)

Sooner of later that debt is paid.

It would be more tolerable if only the liars paid the debt. Sadly, it often is not.

This book-- which can be a little tricky to read due to the writer's style-- explores that notion that suppressed information of almost any kind has a way of asserting itself. It is where I formed one of my personal mantras, "Truth Leaks."

An example that the author uses is the secrecy surrounding The Manhattan Project. Not only were people getting sick because the radiation was there even though the government never told most people about it, but personnel whose clearance rating never gave them access to the reality of the projects started raving about things that they had no logical means of learning about.

Another, post-war example, were parents who decided to set aside their identities as Jews after the trauma of the Holocaust. They never spoke of it in their households. Lo, and behold, their children or grandchildren started showing an interest in Judaism.
