Every female of child bearing age in my extended family had decided no more children or none at all.

Not long ago kin in Texas had to flee to California to avoid death when her pregnancy went south last trimester. They had to sell their home and move to a different suburb because some MAGA nut wanted to cash in on her "crime" of surviving.

The whole ordeal was a life lesson to her cousins and friends who do not want to take any chances.

Many of the environmental problems we're facing are due to overpopulation. Fewer people = a cleaner, healthier planet.

with petrochemical spewing jets would probably make the start of a better argument.

I saw a bumper sticker today that said:

If you can't feed um, don't breed um.

Focus on simply the myth of "overpopulation" as a primary culprit of our worldly ills is relinquishing the fact that the hungry littles didn't ask to be here.

It misses all other major points, imo.

Because it's never one thing (or one type of person) that creates a problem.

It's always a complex combination of cascading circumstances that creates the most truthful picture of the ultimate catalysts of destruction.

Blaming babies when wealthy adults can't get their ish together and continue to exacerbate the problem at the expense of everyone (including themselves) somehow doesn't seem fair to me.

YMMV. ❤️

Similar to cancer. There arent enough resources in our galaxy to support the 20th century growth rate to much past 40 more centuries. We have to reorganize to get stable.

It is super expensive to have a kid (from conception to high school graduation, and more for college). Health care, high cost of living, poor predictions for future employment, uncertain economic forecast, no affordable housing, etc.

Under MAGA them problem has increased much more than expected.

Add to it the burden placed on the females more than males, no access to healthcare, etc are all contributing factors.

The moral integrity and the status of the US has dramatically shifted and the world hates us. Who wants to raise kids in this environment?

Kudos for all those who have a brain and a choice!!!!!

The decline in the number of new workers will create reduced tax revenue and increased cost of services to support ageing boomers and Xers. Oops. Oops.

If so, birth rates can't be up vs 2023, because that would mean 2023 was the all-time low.

Please define what you think what "birthrates" are. I will tell you: It is the average number of children had per woman. They ain't going up.

However, marriage rates are in the ditch, too, and good riddance to that. Marriage is obsolete and should have died out centuries ago. More and more women, especially younger women, are rejecting the traditional script altogether.

Birthrates are declining all over the world except for a handful of African countries like Nigeria.

There is nothing that will reverse the trend.

Furthermore, more and more women, especially in the U.S. are preferring to remain single because they are not just rejecting more children--they aren't having marriage and children at all. They like their freedom and not having to take care of a grown manbaby who won't do one thing around the house.
