Trump's Way - a parody

With apologies to Paul Anka and Frank Sinatra.

Dedicated to all the enablers.

And now, our end is near.
I have betrayed my own damn country.
My friends, I'll say it clear.
I'll put it to you really bluntly.

I've sold my very soul.
I backed him just to get my payday.
And more, much worse than this,
I did it Trump's way.

Regrets, I have a few.
But then again, I have no conscience.
I did what a coward does,
I kissed the ring for every offense.

I failed, each chance I had.
I could have turned and gone my own way.
But no, much worse than that,
I did it Trump's way.

Yes there were times, I'm sure you knew
When there were things that I could do.
But through it all, I had no doubt
He'd chew me up and spit me out. Instead of tall,
I just got small and did it Trump's way.

I fawned, obeyed and lied.
I saw the powers he kept abusing.
And now, as you lose it all,
I have to think it's still amusing.

To think, I did all that,
And, may I say, not in a kind way.
Oh no, oh no not me.
I did it Trump's way.

For what is a man? What has he got?
If not himself, then he has not
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I do not know.
I did it Trump's way.

It's just a couple hours' worth of effort. I'm sure it could be improved. The muse just struck so I had to do something with it.

And it's especially nice to see when too many people, even here on DU, will just ask AI for something and post the AI slop.

This took you a couple of hours instead of few minutes asking a chatbot to do it for you.

But you know how great it feels when you have an idea to start with, and your subconscious is cooperating to flesh that idea out, piece by piece.

I used to write a lot of parodies but it's been some years since the last one. I had the idea in the afternoon so I guess it did percolate in the back of my mind for a few hours before I took pen to paper. Then it was a couple of hours of choosing words and rhymes and testing phrasing and all that. I think it came out pretty well, if I do say so myself.

One of the the things I really hate about the marketing of AI for writing, including for students, is the constant suggestion that looking at a blank screen or page is the worst thing ever for writers. So it's supposedly a godsend to have some AI model give you the first paragraphs to get you started. And offer you ideas if you don't have any at the moment. Characters' names, if you're writing fiction. I've seen marketing for AI saying it will "lift the cognitive burden" - but what they're calling a burden is our ability to think and create. Which should always be used, honed and celebrated.

I'm glad you shared this parody.
