(5,911 posts)Who knew that empathy was the work of the devil? Seriously, I had heard the talk that empathy was bad (musk), but had never heard why. That is very sick and perverted thinking. And very scary.

(28,635 posts)Eyes when I heard it on my local public radio station.
I have always believed in hurtful and evil people.
I barely survived growing up with a severely mentally disturbed half sister that tried to kill me more than once. So, people lacking empathy isn't a shock to me.
However, that there's an organized movement that preaches such like a religion is something that I found shocking. It isn't anything that sane person should overlook. Situational awareness is the first rule of self defense, after all.
I'm thankful that you found it meaningful. ❤️

(5,911 posts)Its painful to think people really believe crap like that. However, this year seems to be full of teaching me things I dont want to know about my fellow Americans.

(67,343 posts)1. They're racist and don't want immigrants coming to the U.S. Too much empathy for the poor and needy leads to welcoming immigrants.
2. They're bigoted against LGBTQ and other people they don't like and don't want people to feel empathy for them.
3. They're worried that their womenfolk might be inclined toward empathy (because women are good nurturers but not very bright) so they're doubling down on why empathy is bad. Get those women back in line.
I admit that I stopped reading at that point. I imagine it's mostly about money, at the core. It usually is with right wing evangelicals.

(14,432 posts)These are the cretins who, if they reproduce, ensure they damage their "little darlings" by reliving their own childhoods through their children's lives, whether those children want them or not.
They know best. No one understands their dedication, their goals, their feelings...their identity. Empathy for others is toxic to them, because it pops their personal bubbles of reality.
As the song goes, they're living in their Own Private Idahos. They just dived a bit too far in their own pools...

(330 posts)Why doesn't our side ever refer to them and their beliefs as radical, right wing? Toxic empathy is a crazy radical concept.

(330 posts)To your point, they always go with their knee-jerk reaction to nearly everything without thinking it through. My own life experience has taught me that a knee-jerk reaction is short sighted and produces unintended consequences.

Toxic empathy. Isnt this what Christ was afflicted with?

(104,220 posts)Stuckey is an authoritarian, who is using the predominant religion in her country to say "what I think is right; anyone who disagrees with me is evil. I don't care about people not like me, and I hate anyone who even seems to criticise an aspect of how I see myself". If she were in Iran, she'd be backing the religious police beating women whose hair shows from under their scarfs. If she were in North Korea, she'd be praising the Kims as supermen, and wanting anyone who complains sent to labour camps.
She sees that there's a dangerous amount of empathy in the Christian Bible that would undermine her authority, so she's gaslighting her followers, to get them to believe that what a Christian should do is order everyone around.
