just heard on MSNBC that the new parent of CBS has to place a "monitor" on CBS news content. Nothing of DEI and no criticism of this Admin.
We are well into a fascist takeover. After Columbia's cave to get 50% of their money restored (after settlement expenses), and the ICE cash infusion with the Piece of Shit Bill, I believe more than ever, that we are under attack by domestic enemies of the Republic. At least five states are desperately gerrymandering as we type.
Rolling over is not an option. For a business, a college, for Congress, or SCOTUS for that matter. They took an oath too. That seems to be forgotten.
The bully(ies) will want more of everyone's lunch money.

(57,358 posts)tRump named a dollar figure higher than is actual.
Powell checked tRump's cheat sheet and said that's another building.
tRump said it's part of the project.
Powell said it's finished.
tRump tried to reassert his point.
Powell said it was finished five years ago (which means it completed while tRump was running his 1.0 regime).

(88 posts)As I posted a few hours earlier, we watched the CBS Evening News yesterday and CBS clipped the video of Trump and Powell so they did not show Powell replying that Trump was adding in the cost of a third building completed several years ago. Misleading editing (if i want to be charitable)!

(8,967 posts)and it was on 60 Minutes when they manipulated the context of some Ron DeSantis remarks. It irritated me greatly because the resulting fallout only lent ammo to the cries of victimhood from the right. It was sloppy and stupid.

(8,967 posts)not this latest thing. The editorial bit I mentioned was "sloppy" in that they assumed no one would catch it when the raw footage would have been widely available beyond their newsroom.
I think this latest CBS development will taint their news reputation for generations. I don't know if they can ever recover from it. Ironic that "Goodnight and Good Luck" just ended a Broadway run.

(7,046 posts)and started sucking up to Dump. Add to that Skydance's plans to change the direction of news and it makes the whole thing suspect. News is facts. There is no direction other than reporting what is happening. People need to take the power away from any organization that doesn't have independent news divisions by not watching them. If I'm wrong, then I'll admit it. After seeing they way they are treating their current talent, I don't think I am.

(16,933 posts)To me, Deadline WH is the prime example.
I believe fear-mongering and hate-mongering is FoxNews business model because viewers become addicted to it and keep watching it to get their next fix.
I think MSNBC uses the same tactics for the same reasons although not to the extent of FoxNews.

ratings declined significantly, culminating in the discontinuation of its news/talk format and one of the lowest rating radio stations in the Bay Area.
Before that take over the KGO format had a diversity of viewpoints.
Cumulus removed all the liberal hosts, which is all you need to know about Cumulus. The SF Bay Area is one of the most progressive in the country.
It doesnt take rocket science to see why their ratings dropped.
It will be interesting to see what happens to CBS.

(10,669 posts)BBC presently partner with CBS and PBS/NPR for their news gathering in the USA. They used to partner with ABC, who now partner with ITN (Independent Television News - make news for ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5). Sky partners with NBC/MSNBC, because they have the same parent company.

I recently read about VT, MI and WI nullification laws in response to the Fugitive Slave Act. Hypocritical southern states could say little as they were and are nullifiers too. Time to start that again. Do what we want and tell DC to go fuck themselves.
As for CBS news, once again, I'm ahead of the curve. I haven't watched a network news program in years. Weird since Walter Cronkite was a regular at our dinner table growing up. Network news sure as shit isn't what it use to be.
