VA-11: Early Voting Dates In Fairfax City For Congressional Special Election
FAIRFAX CITY, VA Early in-person voting for the Sept. 9 special election to fill the vacant 11th Congressional District seat in Virginia begins on Friday, July 25. Voters will choose which candidate will succeed former U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D).
Last November, Connolly revealed that he'd been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and was receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatment. However, the cancer returned and the congressman's family announced he had died on May 21.
Two candidates are on the special election ballot: Braddock District Supervisor James Walkinshaw (D) and Stewart Whitson (R), the senior director of federal affairs at the Foundation of Government Accountability, a conservative think tank. Both candidates earned their spot on the ballot by winning the June 28 primaries of their respective political parties.
