Big food or pharma or Wall Street also need to be broken up, but I would start with tech to get the most bang for your buck.

Corporations and the robber barons who own them tend to spread money around so that nearly everyone is somewhat beholden to them.

(111,444 posts)I'd hope they cancel their META accounts (Facebook, Instagram, and whatever else) immediately. Easy for me to say, given I have never registered on any of them, but again.. Democracy, Free Speech, and pushing back against authoritarianism are the issues.

(581 posts)Something about this story is off. His account being suspended for being too socialist, and then turned back on within hours, is not how tech companies operate.

(3,701 posts)I suspect the definition is just another way of saying "too Liberal" or "too humanitarian".
Justice matters.
(8,909 posts)Those damn countries that always rank as the top best countries in the world to live in and be the happiest people on planet Earth.
Can't have that in merika... the richest of the rich countries in the world (well, for a handful of right-wing oligarchs).

(52,125 posts)yet also highly regulated capitalist sectors that work synergistically with expansive social welfare systems to produce some of the highest standards of living on the planet.
Here in Sweden, the actual socialist and/or communist parties (the largest one by far now is called Vänsterpartiet aka The Left Party) have never been officially in a Government (Regeringen). At times they have been in a 'confidence and suppy' scheme with my party here, The Social Democrats, the overall single largest Party in Sweden on balance, over most of the past century or so.
The Swedish Social Democrats have ofttimes had a pretty antagonistic relationship over the last century with the actual socialist and communist parties.

How very tyrant-like. The times we are a-living.
In Mamdani's case, I don't think this will work.

(3,325 posts)Ive not seen this source used here before, but I might have missed it. Its writer is Alejandra Caraballo, a Harvard Law lecturer, transgender rights advocate and avowed anti-fascist. Her voice is certainly take-no-prisoners. Ive not previously researched her work. Im following her now.
CloudWatcher
(2,127 posts)Alejandra Caraballo's story doesn't mention any news of Instagram suspending Zohran Mamdani's account.
"NYC Journals" is clearly a fake new source (hint: the 'about' section doesn't give contact or ownwership info). The news of Zohran Mamdani's account being suspended does not turn up from any other source.

(3,325 posts)The article appeared before he was dropped on Insta. My uncertainty is about The Dissident publication. Im not familiar with it. Perusing back issues, it seems to be a real endeavor.
Heres the About page. I didnt find NYC Journals. But Ill continue my research. Thanks for the direction.

(2,127 posts)You said "This article is frightening" and I misread that as referring to the original post's news, and was expecting the article you quoted to directly report the news of the OP. I was referring to the about page on the NYC Journals site, as that site appear to be complete AI generated trash.
The Dissident appears to me to be legit, though more of a one-person blog vs. a normal news source. E.g. every article is written by Alejandra Caraballo and there's no sign of a team.

(2,846 posts)... yeah, Russia gave socialism a bad name, but the fundamental meaning hasn't changed:
SOCIALISM IS PUTTING THE WELFARE OF SOCIETY PEOPLE AHEAD OF THE BEST INTERESTS OF CAPITALISM, WHICH ARE, SELDOM, IF EVER, IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF SOCIETY AS A WHOLE.
It is worth noting that Mamdani's political positions are essentially the same as those of Bernie Sanders*. No one has claimed that Bernie is a threat to "National Interests". No, of course not; Bernie's White. Zohran is one a dem dere dreaded brown people. This whole thing reeks of Trump's obscene, stomach-turning bigotry.
I wake up every morning hoping to read Trump's obituary. And weaseldick Zuckerberg can kiss my ass. If his lips aren't glued to Trump's ample posterior.
*I've met, and spoken with, Bernie on several occasions, and I know him to be a good man who keeps his promises to his constituents, and me in particular. Anyone tempted to trash-talk Bernie will want to reconsider. My verbal wood chipper is oiled up and eager to dispense fresh compost.

(104,814 posts)On archive.org, its home page was, in June 2019 (the latest archive before this month), just an index leading to a page to sign in - in Turkish ("Şifremi unuttum!" = "I forgot my password!" )

So it expired some time between 2019 and June 29th 2025, and now someone's picked it up. Yet it claims "United by a passion to educate those who want to learn, the organization was founded in 2013" on its "About" page. Its "News" index only has 3 stories, all from July 21st 2025.
This is a bogus site, yet claims to have somehow received internal Instagram emails - but all it does is quote one phrase. Please delete this OP.
