Do you give yourself permission to laugh during troubled times like these?

I hope so. I sincerely do. Laugh in the face of all the madness, lest you yourself go mad.

With family, with friends, while reading or watching TV…asking myself for permission to do so never crossed my mind.

I am on the Oregon coast, having a breather from weeks and weeks of around a 100 inland.

We don't have cable so it was good to see Jon and Stephen last night.

I fnd a good walk on the beach, a hike and a massage more comforting. Laughing not so much, don't find too much funny. Even the cartoons are sad in their truth.

don't need to give myself permission. I also look for people doing acts of kindness or compassion; those always put a smile on my face.

I once laughed right in the face of what was then a good friend who repeated birther shit. There was no stopping it.

When something stimulates my brain's laughter synapses, I laugh. It's an autonomous response. "Permission" doesn't come into it any more than at any other time.

I've laughed during funerals and wakes. I suppose most of us have. This isn't a funeral or a wake. It's a battle.

I'm buried in bad news. The only way to not want to die is by seeking out laughter.
