Dont boo me. Politically I am very through with Bezos. But I have shopped and enjoyed Amazon for years and giving it up is hard because of the convenience, etc.
However, lately I have discovered their soon-to-be downfall because it has poisoned my recent purchases and made it much harder to rely on Amazon for credibility

AI has destroyed the capacity to honestly judge the product. Their reviews are 90 percent phoney. Their advertising videos are no longer trustworthy, thanks to Bezos buddy destroying all safety regulations.
So what I thought would be my hardest farewell is now an easy bye bye.
Nothing good lasts forever, especially once its tainted.

(9,340 posts)With all the post-pandemic delivery options now, it's never been easier to abandon Amazon.
Free one- and two-day delivery seems archaic when you can now order from local stores that deliver within a few hours/same day.

(13,811 posts)I would gladly shop local but I really dont need any tourist tee shirts or key lime pies.
But hey, Ill swap you some conch shells for a decent pair of work shoes!
That was the Amazon connection for us.

(6,137 posts)but when I can gather up a little, I usually find what I need on Amazon. It'll be such a weird thing that finding it in Walmart (the only other place to shop in this little city) is a no-go. I don't agree with Bezos politics, nor him as a person. Right now he is providing me a service I can't easily get elsewhere. (shrug)
What I am finding disconcerting and is going to make me back off even more than I have been, is the way they're now doing their shipping. Last weekend I bought three items, one, a cable set, a gift at around 7.00. One a personal item, and the other a "cooling" blanket for my bed. I am SO tired of waking up drenched in sweat, meanwhile I'm freezing everyone else out of the house! Saw this particular blanket among many... not the cheapest and sure not the most expensive and decided to give it a try. Took a bit more than discretionary funds, but I AM very tired of being drenched in the AM. Shipping was suppose to be free, and it was suppose to get to me by the next day.
Instead, they split up all three (even tho they were all on one order), and I got charged shipping on 2 because they were so cheap. I figure it's just another way of Bezos to take advantage of us, and I'm NOT happy. Still...
I LOVE the bedspread, I've used it three nights now, and I've not wakened drenched to the gills yet! Whoopee! (LOL)

(20,655 posts)although the interface is confusing, and some may be shipped from other warehouses/vendors.
I have leukemia which makes me sweat if the temps are much above 70F. I wonder if the bedspread would work for me.

(6,137 posts)It's a lot thinner than I thought it would be. I've got a queen sized bed, so I ordered a king size bedspread. Didn't turn out to be as large as I thought it'd be, but it's doable. And it's machine washable, which will be a lot easier than my other bedspread. Especially since my cats really seem to like it... and love sleeping with mom, anyway! And, if I remember right, it was about $37.00... a lot less than I was afraid it'd cost. I'll have to dig out the packaging material tomorrow before we take do trash takeout, but I could give you the name of it then. Not a lot of options for colors, patterns, etc... that was one downside I found. But I love waking up dry in the middle of the night or start of day. I was so wet, I was beginning to wonder if I had other problems during the night! Hello, old age... it hasn't been a lot of fun so far....

(358 posts)Amazons net income in Q1 2025 was a 64% increase from Q1 2024. Its gross profit for 12 months ending 1 March 2025 increased by 13.7% year-over-year. Their Q2 2025 financial report will be out on 31 July. Anyone want to guess what they will be? The rich keep on getting richer.
