We are living a lie. We still keep telling ourselves that some magical knight is going to swoop in and save us.
They are not.
In my humble opinion our nation is completely lost.
We have Republicans desperately wanting to put other human beings into concentration camps.
We have foreign born billionaires like Thiel and Musk, robbing our country blind and desperate to seize control of our wealth and of our people.
We have Democrats who appear more than willing to help both achieve they goals as they continue to say one thing in public but in the halls of Congress, behind closed doors, voting for bills like the recent Cryptocurrency bill that will allow billionaires and their corporations to rob us blind with unregulated fake money. Over a hundred Democrats voted to to give billionaires crypto scam artists free rein to fuck us all over. That vote was incredibly disgusting and disappointing.
It did open my eyes. It really isn't about politics. Its just about money and power. Until the majority of us realize this we are lost in the woods. We will continue to get screwed and they will continue to get rich.
I personally don't see any way out of this because our society is so locked in its obsession with obtaining wealth and power over others that society has all but lost its humanity.
I mean billionaires and politicians are paying ICE agents and the military pennies in comparison to their wealthy and for those pennies those soldiers are more than willing to hurt, torture or even kill anyone they are told to go after.
Right now our society is losing. We don't want want to believe that yet. Until we do we will continue to lose. Until society can except that we, we cannot change it.
To be clear I will still vote for Democrats and support Democrats and encourage people to support Democrats and vote for Democrats because it is always better than the alternative but I hold no illusion as to who is really pulling a lot of the real strings of power and it is not them. It is the billionaires, the billionaire people and corporations. They are the real enemy. Yea, that billionaire too. I don't care how nice they seem, how much they give to charity, how great their songs are or how great their film career is. They are everything that is wrong with our society and humanity. All of them.
Until we realize that things will only get worse.

But where to go?

New Zealand is a modern, democratic nation that is incredibly safe.
Ireland
Japan
EU in general (more specifically, Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Spain and France)
Even China may be a safer bet than here. Barring any significant changes, they have officially won the super power race (some may not realize that or just unwilling to admit it). If that is good or bad thing remains to be seen.

(10,896 posts)There are no decent billionaires. Zero. The very accumulation of that much wealth and it's concentration in a single human being, is the closest to pure evil that exists on Earth.
The very existence of billionaires is destabilizing to every society and every economy.
There is no such things as a good billionaire.

(39,671 posts)We started out as a nation of genocidal white supremacists and it's remarkable how far we've progressed since then, in spite of that.
Yes, this is a step back to 1950's style U.S. American apartheid, brought to us in some part by billionaire grifters like Thiel and Musk who are nostalgic for their old South Africa. But it's not like they were bringing anything new to America.
It's not hopeless. Even if we are not courageous enough to stand on the front lines of dissent there are many measures of passive resistance we can engage in.
