Why the fâck should I pay taxes?
We have to pick up the slack for the ultra wealthy, corporations, & churches. All of which have political influence & say while paying minimal or zero taxes.

(11,875 posts)Was forced down the throats of the average Greek citizen in order to be eligible for an EU loan.
People said Greece allowed their filthy-rich to pay so little in taxes, it lead to the need for constant loans to the government to pay for general functions. It was all Greece's own fault for not holding their rich oligarchs to account.
As federal employees pensions were ended, as the Greek form of Social Security went unfunded, as retirement age was increased, as government services disappeared and roads and infrastructure were left to crumble, Greece was able to dig out of the hole of debt it was put into. All because their filthy-rich refused to pay their taxes.
Austerity, the stupidest idea for paying off the rich ever invented. Coming back soon to a government near you.

(271 posts)Doing the math what does the government need our tax money?
The regime is cutting services, programs and workforce. The things our taxes supported if those things are gone or greatly reduced we regular grunts should be getting a tax cut. It's not like we have relied on the rich for their tax contribution in decades now.
Where's our tax money going to go?

plus:
Tax cuts for the wealthy
A Cryptocurrency reserve that is guaranteed to lose most of it's value over time
Trump's legal defense and lawsuits
Deploying the military on it's own citizens
Paying farmers for their losses from tarriffs, cutting SNAP, and ending USAID
Trump jetting back and forth between DC and Mara Lago and putting up the Secret Service at luxury hotel rates
Bombing Iran, Panama, and Greenland
Cover loss in tax revenue from:
--cutting the IRS
---dwindling foreign travellers
---tarrifs
---loss of immigrant labor resulting in food scarcity, reduction in housing, people staying home to take care of elderly
---more job loss from closing of universities, fired federal workers, end of Department of Education and other agencies
---explosion of homeless people
---closings of hospitals and nursing homes from Medicaid cuts
---more people staying home to care for sick and eldery or just too sick to go to work themselves
---more people dying

Oh, and to that crowd? Jesus' own words (those are the red ones in the book you are using as a paperweight): Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesars; and to God the things that are Gods.
That means pay your damn taxes so that Caesar can keep the roads and bridges up to date and provide education and healthcare.

(7,993 posts)...should be paid for with state/local taxes, not federal.
Perhaps federal taxes should supplement, but the bulk of the money for those things should be generated locally.
MadameButterfly
(3,287 posts)so the states can tax more. You can't shift burdens from feds to states but keep the tax dollars for the Feds.

Ive warned them of the risks but really, whats the point?

(3,287 posts)they wonder if they could go after tax cheats. They just don't have the manpower.
Not recommending you try it though. Instead of a penalty these days they could throw you in a gulag in a foreign country or a swamp where you either get eaten by mosquitos or alligators.
