'Weaklings': Trump dumps 'past' MAGA supporters over Epstein fallout

US President Donald Trump has explicitly abandoned his MAGA supporters who are still demanding answers over the Jeffrey Epstein saga, claiming they are doing the Democrats’ bidding and saying he no longer wants their support.

Despite the FBI and Attorney-General Pam Bondi drawing a line under the case this month, and saying there was no evidence accused sex trafficker Epstein was murdered or kept a client “list”, a large and influential section of Trump’s Make America Great Again movement is not satisfied.

They are calling on the government to release more of the so-called “Epstein files” – documents related to the case – and increasingly believe Trump’s administration is part of a conspiracy to cover up Epstein’s affairs and links to what they call “the deep state”.

Trump has grown frustrated over the past week as the furore failed to die out. Earlier in the week, he said the Epstein matter was “boring”, and that he didn’t understand why people were still interested. Only “pretty bad people” wanted to keep fuelling the story, Trump said.

Is this being reported in the US? I did a fairly cursory search and can't find anything on DU. This article is from AP, not one of the US main media.

President Donald Trump is accusing some of his onetime supporters of being “weaklings” who are falling prey to Democratic “bullshit” about the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein — concluding that he no longer wants their support.

The message was the clearest sign yet of the cracks emerging in the president’s coalition, many of whom are loudly demanding more information about the disgraced financier, who has been subject to myriad conspiracies since his death by suicide in 2019. And some of his allies don’t appear to be listening, with Republicans in Congress taking steps Wednesday morning to potentially force the Justice Department to release more documents.

Declaring that Democrats had struck “pay dirt” in the Epstein scandal, Trump said his political opponents were using the issue to attack him.

NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump is lashing out at his own supporters, accusing them of being duped by Democrats, as he tries to clamp down on criticism over his administration’s handling of much-hyped records in the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking investigation, which Trump now calls a “Hoax.”

“Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this “bull——,” hook, line, and sinker,” Trump wrote Wednesday on his Truth Social site, using an expletive in his post. “They haven’t learned their lesson, and probably never will, even after being conned by the Lunatic Left for 8 long years.”

“Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats work, don’t even think about talking of our incredible and unprecedented success, because I don’t want their support anymore!” he went on. There is no evidence former Democratic officials tampered with the documents or played any role in promoting conspiracies about the files, which members of Trump’s administration stoked for years.

The rhetoric marks a dramatic escalation for the Republican president, who has broken with some of his most loyal backers on issues in the past, but never with such fervor. Though Trump cannot legally run for another term, he will need strong support from a united party to pass his remaining legislative agenda in a narrowly-divided Congress and an energized base to turn out in next year’s midterm elections.
