The New Bogeyman Keeping Me Up at Night

The so-called "Great Big Ugly Bill" just handed ICE a staggering $170 billion. With that kind of money, they can recruit a literal army of heavily armed, ideologically driven enforcers. These agents will be deployed across U.S. cities—militarized, empowered, and driven by a mandate of cruelty.

They are already targeting Hispanic immigrants. But who’s next? Let's look at Trump’s enemies list: Democrats, Muslims, Black Americans, progressive judges, Haitians… It’s a long one. Maybe the elderly, the disabled, the chronically ill. Atheists? Scientists? I wish I were joking.

And how will they treat the public? Look at how Russian troops behaved in Ukraine—rapes, torture, executions, looting. Don’t assume we're immune. ICE has long been accused of racism, misogyny, and violence. Now they’re outfitted with military-grade weapons and vehicles, functioning as Trump’s personal militia. They're well-compensated, incentivized with $40,000 bonuses for hitting “removal” quotas, and their loyalty lies with him—not the Constitution, which this administration has nearly hollowed out.

Think it can’t happen here? Look around. I never thought we’d get this far either.
