Statutory Rape is not synonymous with Pedophilia, although some pedophiles do commit sexual assault on children. In some jurisdictions, statutory rape is a crime even if the teen is consenting, depending on the age of the teen and the age of the offender. For example consensual sex between a 17 year old and her 18 year old boyfriend is rarely if ever prosecuted as statutory rape, and the 18 year old is never considered a pedophile, as he would if he had sexual contact with a 10 year old.
