is how Bondi could have been so stupid as to admit she had the client lists in her possession.
Why would she do this?
Is it because she truly is that stupid? I guess that's possible, but that would be world-class stupid.
Is it because she actually believed Trump when he said he wanted to release that stuff? That's a bit more plausible, but still really stupid. For that to be the answer, she would have to believe that Trump isn't a rapist, and all those pictures with him hanging with Epstein and very young girls were just taken out of context. For the MAGA cult, I guess that is very possible.
But why is Bannon so hot to get this released? He is nobody's fool. Is it because he thinks the Nazis are firmly implanted now and he'd be happy to see Trump forced out of the picture?
Or do these people really believe this will be harmful to Dems? I'm not even aware of any rumors of prominent Dems being regular Epstein clients. Maybe Bill Clinton, but he's been off the map for 25 years.

(6,137 posts)two presidents who were screeched about by repugs while the Dem was in office... and for years afterwards. The first was Jimmy Carter, and the other was Bill Clinton. Funny that these were two of the "most" religious presidents we had. I hesitate to say that about Clinton, given his "sinning" (!) but he did attend church regularly and spoke of religion often enough it irked me because of that whole state/church thing.
I don't think you could hit a single republican with a frisbee and land on one who goes to church regularly, let alone stand by the 10 Commandments or the Beatitudes.

They have their own churches which preach Christian Nationalism, the Seven Mountains Mandate, and the Prosperity Gospel, and I expect they crowd into those.

(6,137 posts)with Paula (whatshername) as chief prophetess. What you're thinking of is Dominionism, or NAR (National Apostolic Reformation) as they rebranded themselves. This group, IMO, needs to labeled a terrorist group. They may not have bombed anything yet, but the inroads they've made into education, infrastructure, and government is damned scary. I daresay they have completely captured the government, in all its many forms. And with all these judges acquiescing to RW demands for 10 Commandments and other bible literature plastered all over the school room walls... well, they are well on their way to capturing all those 7 mountains, woe be unto us! When they capture the Entertainment mountain, that's when life is no longer worth living, cause there'll be no escapism allowed for any amount of time. It'll be all "Rapture" and "Late Great Planet Earth" all the time. As backwards xtian they are up here in KS, my joke is they get mad at anyone they see smiling... obviously that person has to be sinning! (sigh)
And it's too bad that today, you have to ask which Jesus people follow -- the biblical Jesus or the Warrior Jesus of the NAR and repugs.
My grandmother, a travelling preacher back in her day, and a *very* religious person is turning over in her grave!!

(8,740 posts)There's also the "Blue Army and the Opus Dei among reactionary Catholics. All terrorists.
The reaction of many in the church, clerics and lay, was the same reaction the GOP had to the Obama Presidency. I remember it vividly. I was terrifies when Francis died that it would happen again. Thank God they picked someone sane (not perfect, but sane.)

Even without his beliefs the hostile takeover of federal government agencies should be a deal breaker and that includes for moderates.
I think a moderate would look at the progressives & the Republicans and conclude that progressives have better policies but centrists ideas are usually Republican ideas. The theory is it helps them win but evidence suggests otherwise.

(10,014 posts)Right now 46% are Dems and 45% Republicans. Most are younger people. I think its a real bad idea for Dems to leave X because the young will be only influenced by Republicans. Do some of you guys really want only Republicans influencing millions of our young people??
Interesting, its now being reported over on X by various prominent Republicans that Bongino will quit if Pam Bondi is not fired as she has made a fool of him. Also reported that if Bongino quits, Kash Patel might quit. Not saying this is true but Republican reporters are reporting this. Bongino as a podcaster made a huge deal about releasing Epstein files and so his podcast followers are very upset with him. Bongino is also very pro Palestine so I wonder why Trump picked him. He could have been picked by Trump because of Bonginos following or Trump picked him to force him to shut up about Epstein & Israel.

One of the main arguments made against AOC was that she lacked enough time/experience in the House (problematic claim as she already had served as Vice Ranking Member on Oversight). She was elected in 2018, sworn in on January 3rd, 2019 and is now in her 4th term.
BUT the new Ranking Member on the Oversight Committee is Robert Garcia, who has only been in the House since January 3, 2023, so AOC has around 3 times the length of House tenure than Garcia did. He also is an ex Republican (up until he was around 30yo, he is 47yo now).
llmart
(16,640 posts)I still believe in working your way up through the ranks. AOC is still young. She'll get there.
Celerity
(50,954 posts)being just fine (he is now the Oversight Committee Ranking member after Connolly died close to two months ago), but AOC is not, despite triple the length of time in re House tenure as Garcia AND despite the fact AOC already was Vice Ranking Member on that very same Oversight Committee in the previous Congress.
You also had multiple posters here who took the 'AOC needs to wait her turn, she lacks experience' stance but then turned around and supported Jasmine Crockett (who, like Garcia, was a one-termer plus a few months) as the Ranking Member on Oversight (Crockett withdrew after finishing dead last in the preliminary House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee vote).
The fifth highest Democrat in the entire Democratic House Caucus, Joe Neguse, had LESS House tenure than AOC did (in January 2025, when AOC ran for Ranking Member on Oversight) when Neguse assumed that high overall Leadership role (Assistant Democratic Leader) in early 2024 (they both were elected in 2018).
The fourth highest Democrat in the entire Democratic House Caucus (and my House rep) Ted Lieu, only had one term more experience than AOC did when Lieu assumed that high overall Leadership role (Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus).
The third highest Democrat in the entire Democratic House Caucus, Pete Aguilar, only had one term more experience than AOC did when Aguilar assumed that high overall Leadership role (Chair of the House Democratic Caucus).
The 2nd highest Democrat (only underneath Leader Jeffries) in the entire Democratic House Caucus, Katherine Clark, only had one term and a half terms more experience than AOC did when Clark assumed that high overall Leadership role (Democratic Whip).
Clark had LESS House tenure than AOC did (in January 2025) when Clark assumed the high Leadership role of Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus in January 2019.
The highest Democrat in the entire Democratic House Caucus, Leader Jeffries, only had two terms more experience than AOC did in January 2025 (when AOC ran for Ranking Member on Oversight) when Jeffries assumed the Democratic House Leader role in January 2023.
It all adds up to situationally and selectively applied double standards in re AOC.
