If I understand correctly from what I've read, ACA premium subsidies will end at the end of this year. Currently, I am paying $550/month with a $750 subsidy for a $1300 policy. I'm 61 and have a few years to wait before Medicare kicks in.
I plan to get more work, so my subsidy would be less then, but still this is something that's been very helpful. I know that many people have been impacted more substantially by Trump's cuts, but this one especially seems like something that will impact Trump supporters as much as everyone else and hopefully will at least help with the midterm elections.
For those of you that are in the same predicament, are you planing on taking care of medical procedures before the end of the year and possibly switching to less expensive catastrophic coverage next year? Do you think there's a chance that there might be enough votes in Congress to salvage this because of the political harm that it could do to them?

(1,702 posts)So, I'll be paying hundreds of dollars more per month unless I reduce my coverage. This really needs to be a strong part of the messaging for the midterms. Trump and the Republicans are taking money out of your pocket and giving it to the ultra-wealthy in tax cuts. They are charging you a sales tax on imported goods and using that money to lower the income tax that ultra-wealthy people pay.

(1,702 posts)Reading more about this, Aetna has announced that they are ending all of their ACA plans at the end of this year because they feel that it will be less profitable with the reduced subsidies.

(52,985 posts)since this is a very important issue in my life. They say, "Oh, it won't happen, don't worry about it" which only makes me annoyed.

(1,702 posts)It seems that it pretty likely is going to happen. A massive corporation doesn't make big decisions like that on an unlikely hunch.
