Trump administration puts new pressure on UC Berkeley with investigation into foreign funding

The Trump administration, which is engaged in an effort to exert control over universities it sees as promoting liberalism, said Friday it is looking into whether UC Berkeley violated federal requirements for disclosing funding from foreign sources.

In a news release, the U.S. Department of Education cited “credible news media reports” in 2023 indicating that UC Berkeley had failed to disclose “hundreds of millions of dollars in funding from a foreign government.”

The announcement comes one week after the Education Department said it was investigating Harvard University for similar reasons.

At stake for UC Berkeley are billions of dollars in federal funding, a punishment that is not merely theoretical. The Trump administration is already withholding billions of dollars from Harvard and Columbia universities in an effort to pressure the schools to adhere to President Donald Trump’s political agenda.

What would be their motivation to fail to 'disclose' such funding? AZJonnie 23 hrs ago #1

Anybody know of a reason why it might make sense for them to do so? Are there some kind of limits that are allowable? Certain countries from which it's not allowed? That sort of thing? Also, what constitutes 'foreign countries' in this context? Are student tuitions paid by foreign students and their families considered 'money from foreign countries'?

This is such bullshit. He's just going after their endowments, which we ALL see. It ain't no high fallutin', moralistic, intellectual stance. He wants control of the educational system so he can have peasants and slaves. What a creep.

You couldn't pay me to even touch that fat, tiny dick guy, and that's even if, you know. He hasn't got one redeeming trait. He's a cruddy turdball, who thinks he's Gawd or something.
