Prices are already getting out of reach for many. Soon we see empty shelves.
I have not shopped for awhile so do not know. Groceries--yes and those prices are going up and up and up.

Businesses have been canceling orders for products from China after Trump imposed a 145% tariff on most Chinese imports, risking product shortages for American consumers.

(50,014 posts)Atlantic and Alaskan, and loads of Shrimp. But none of the northern Atlantic catch probably supplied by Norwegian and other European companies. No cod, haddock, halibut, steelhead, fresh sardines, tuna. So retailers are not willing to pay up and take the risk of things not selling because they won't sell. Americans gonna pinch like it's 1933.

(57,829 posts)Just about all of the fish we eat there is locally caught. The small shops in Provincetown, Truro and Wellfleet have arrangements with local fishermen to buy up their catch as soon as it comes in. Sometimes one or two of the bigger shops will get in Alaskan fish (King Crab, Sockeye, etc.) but only on a limited basis, and it's way more expensive than the local catch.
I wonder if we're in for some heavy sticker shock, or will the lack of foreign takers keep prices in line? Stay tuned, details at 11.

I used to get Bob's Red Mill but no longer since tRump economic war on Canada. I discovered CanMar, really tasty roasted ground flax Canadian brand.

(All of our meats come from local farms. So did simple dairy and all veggies and fruits once summer hit. Hell, we made our own ice cream, made our own S'mores, our favorite drink was Kool-aid... always the base packets, never the sweetened or the ready made stuff. By the age of ten, a good percentage of us could have manned a grill in a diner. Heh.)

(2,673 posts)- don't know what the ramifications are regarding tariffs though. Of late, they seemed to have upped their game significantly in the quality of select items.

(20,301 posts)Complex logistics systems don't react well to the orange jackass changing his mind every other damn day or saying something different from his trade reps. That's causing chaos. And all that mess means higher prices for you and me on top of potential tariffs. Stability and predictability. That's what every business everywhere runs on.
But oh no! We've got grown toddlers running things! Once again, dumb Amurkins shoot themselves in the face by electing people just as ill prepared and unsophisticated as they are.

(14 posts)We like our brats in Wisconsin. Basically, before food prices went up a package of 5 Johnsonville Brats were $5.99. Then came Trump and they jumped to $6.99. Yesterday, they were $7.39.
Also, do you notice how boxed packages remain the same size but with less items?
