NEW YORK (AP) Jen Psaki is stepping up not to a podium, but to MSNBCs flagship time slot.
Former President Joe Bidens first White House press secretary, who began hosting her Sunday show Inside in 2023 for the network, will move regularly to prime-time starting on May 6.
Shell take over Rachel Maddows 9 p.m. Eastern weekday hour on Tuesday through Friday when Maddow resumes her one-night-a-week schedule on Mondays. Maddow has been hosting five nights a week for the beginning of the second Trump administration.
Psaki replaces Alex Wagner, who had the daunting task of trying to hold onto as many viewers of MSNBCs most popular personality as she could. Psakis selection was one of the early moves for new MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler, who is also navigating MSNBCs corporate divorce from NBC News.

(15,119 posts)To me, her air presence doesn't hold my attention like Rachel does. I tried to watch her Sunday shows but haven't been able to actually get all the way through one.
I predict a short run for her in this slot. A couple of books (rating periods) and they'll be looking to try someone else.

(11,569 posts)they would have kept Joy Reid until Rachel's 9 o'clock spot was open again (after her 100-day stint), and put Jen Psaki in Joy's 7 o'clock spot. Ratings had nothing to do with the Joy and Alex ouster. IMHO.

(11,569 posts)took a deep nose dive when they fired Joy Reid. The only thing I will say for Jen Psaki is that she will have to take a step up from where she is today to equal Rachel and Joy's reporting. In other words, she will have to be twice as hard-hitting as she is today. If she can do that, I will be all in for her in that spot on a full-time basis. It all depends on Jen.
