When Israel shattered the ceasefire in Gaza last month and resumed its large-scale bombardment, the British-Australian doctor Mohammed Mustafa had just clocked off at the emergency department of what was the last fully functioning hospital in Gaza City.
It was so intense that the windows blew off their hinges and I had fallen out of my bed, he tells Guardian Australias Full Story podcast.
The 35-year-old emergency physician from Perth was on his second medical mission in the besieged territory volunteering for the Palestinian Australian New Zealand Medical Association at al-Ahli Arab hospital, also known as the Baptist hospital.
Children and women began arriving at the hospital with extreme injuries, including burns and missing limbs. Mustafa knew many would not survive the night.

(59,597 posts)1. From international empathy because of the Hamas terror attack to...
to international pariah, war criminal nation..that's Netanyahu's Israel today.
Netanyahu and the IDF couuld not have handled the responses to the attacks any worse.
And now breaking the ceasefire with more than obvious ethnic cleansing attacks.
My God. Again, a pariah nation.

(109,233 posts)2. The denial has to be beyond unbearable for him. His speaking out, instead is assumed (wrongly) to mean
that he cares nothing about the murdered and kidnapped Israeli victims on October 7, 2023. Tribalism is beyond inexplicable. I'd bet everything this British-Australian doctor cares only about the dead and dying and what he might do to prevent further carnage--no matter which side of that Gaza border it lands. As do I.
