I think its less that Pritzker is carving out a lane than about embracing trans rights and LGBTQ rights, he said in an interview.
Pierceson said transgender rights get a lot of attention in campaigns, but voters arent making final decisions based only on the issue. That could mean Newsom and Emanuel are calling for an overcorrection to the Democrat platform.
Theres a tendency I think in the professional political class to overestimate the conservatism of voters and to always argue that the most conversative position will be the most politically potent and powerful position, Pierceson said.

Govs. Pritzker and Walz are good at this. You can have a strong economic message without stepping all over the civil and human rights of others. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

(10,454 posts)You cannot be half-for-trans rights any more than you can be half-pregnant or half-not-for-racism.
The message is simple and should not be hard to understand - "Human rights are non-negotiable and attempts to infringe on them are always non-starters." To attempt to define some one's intrinsic human rights by coloring the discussion in any way is anathema, Period.
This should not be hard to understand.
The law is a defensive weapon only - meant to protect us NOT to allow us to harm others due to opinions or an inability to recognize that differences abound and civil society demands we respect that basic tenet.
It is insulting to consider selling out any group of marginalized or villified human beings for contemporaneous political advantage. If I wanted to support a political party that is fine with that, I'd register as a Republican and get to wallowing in the slop with the other pigs.
