Fox News commentator and strong trump supporter Steve Hilton enters California

Governor ace.

Former Fox News personality to run for governor: Steve Hilton, who wrote a book called “Califailure,” said he will enter the race, becoming the second major Republican to enter the field.

I certainly hope David Hogg stays out the of California with his strategy of running candidates against Democratic incumbents who don’t conform to his “ideal”.

Hilton is dangerous, and nothing can be taken for granted, especially since California has a history of having too many candidates in a race where anything can happen.

Gray Davis lost the race to Arnold Schwarzenegger because of our jungle primary.

And for those who are not familiar with California, the primaries for all offices except president, are run so the top two vote getters run in the general election. It can be two candidates from any party.

Doesn't need a risky wild card upset. There are pockets of very red areas such as the San Joaquin valley that can really upset the apple cart if there is a low turnout, or too many candidates are in the race and they kill each other off.

I'll never forget at a Barbara Boxer rally where she emphasized that California is more independent than is recognized.

The fact that we have had Reagan, Deukmejian, Pete Wilson, etc. should tell you that.

Add to that the low number of signatures required to initiate a recall, which was what happened with Davis, and they tried to do it with Newsom, makes the state very vulnerable to republican shenanigans.

For a long time republicans have been trying to split California into two or more states for a long time. Fortunately most attempts have failed to qualify for the ballot, but that hasn't stopped them from continuing to try.

Newsom is termed out, so Hogg won’t be involved in funding a primary challenger (which is his group’s stated mission, primarily focusing on house races)

We do have the good fortune of having the wonderful Katie Porter running for governor.

They had that right wing larry elder try to unseat Newsom along with the rethug effort to recall Newsom.

I really wish California would increase the required number to call for a recall. Right now it is at 11% which is far to low for a state our size.
