'Reconsider': Tom Cotton begs Trump for disaster relief -- after opposing it for Dem states

Cotton, who has opposed similar aid for blue states, joined the Arkansas delegation in writing a letter directly to Trump to support Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders' request for funds.

On Friday, Sanders appealed the federal government's denial in a letter telling Trump that her state was in "dire need of federal assistance."

However, Trump's administration has refused to budge.

"Based on our review of all of the information available, it has been determined that the damage from this event was not of such severity and magnitude as to be beyond the capabilities of the state, affected local governments, and voluntary agencies. Accordingly, we have determined that supplemental federal assistance is not necessary," Arkansas Division of Emergency Management spokesperson Lacey Kanipe was told in the federal government's denial.

On Monday, Cotton and the Arkansas delegation implored Trump to change his mind.
"We write in support of Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders' request to reconsider the denial," the group said. "Given the cumulative impact and sheer magnitude of destruction from these severe weather events, federal assistance is vital to ensure that state and local communities have the capabilities needed to rebuild."

Cotton, however, has a history of voting against disaster relief for other states.

and Arkansas Republican, Trumphumping Voters should know ....that they have outgrown their usefulness, now that he knows there won't ever be another real "election" where they are needed again. That goes for every other RED STATE Republican voter too

LOL The Trump voters across the entire nation...... FUCKED AROUND, AND NOW ARE FINDING OUT......BIG TIME

Hurricane season is coming, and they are forecasting the same number as last year, but larger magnitude storms......
Heads up, all you Trumphumping voters in Florida and other Southern Red States..............

After every National Disaster, you can all relish that you STUPIDLY voted away your Federal Assistance, so the 1% can get even BIGGER tax cuts...

YOU GREW IT, YOU CHEW IT..............Your ignorance and stupidity, for all of you...... is about to become VERY PAINFUL..........

... of course this might just be some sort of MAGA-kabuki theater where they make a big show of begging the Emperor and the Emperor makes a big show of Federal largesse to teach the rest of us how the game works.

I'm thinking that a number of blue states could support each other in this time of chaos.

Disasters are going to happen.

Very different purpose, but the northeast states and some parts of Canada started a cap and trade program called RGGi to work together on climate in the days before Obama when the country as a whole would not. It still exists. This program has allowed these states to do more themselves than the country would.

It would seem a regional mutual aid pact would be a good idea if transferring this cost from the federal to the state happens under Trump. There is already a history of out of state repair people responding to need.

The two biggest risks would be the Republicans spinning it as helping only blue states and ignoring red states which will feed into their victim mentality and ability to ignore that it is they who blew up the national response. The second could be Trump transitioning to giving aid only to states not in these pacts - i.e. the red states.

They have their cushy job on our dime, but fight for funding only when their job is on the line. I hope every republican is removed from office for the damage they are also doing by abdication their responsibility in Congress.

He has tied himself to Trump and everything Trump does is laid at his feet.

I'm not sure the people of Arkansas are tracking Trump's refusal to authorize FEMA funding but at some point, it should all pile up too much for the MAGA Bubbas to ignore.
