Bit of a stretch, but Hegseth reminds me of Nathan Thurm

A Martin Short character on SNL, a sleazy lawyer. A bit of different context but the "What? What are you even talking about" kind of desperate and hysterical denial seems similar.

and searching youtube I saw that too. JFK Jr was the reasonable character in that skit.

WTH happened? Opportunism? Financial calculations? A desire to be relevant in any way possible? Brain worms?

There is also a resemblance to George on Seinfeld (‘Was I not supposed to do that?’). Hegseth is looking increasingly desperate. Watch him with the sound off - the wild gesticulation and posing. He looks ridiculous. BTW, love Martin Short (and Jason Alexander).
