1. So the crisis counselor has to ask a suicidal teen if they are LGBT?

And if the teen says yes they have to hang up on a kid who wants to kill themselves?

3. Insurance companies do this kind of thing.

For example if you are a therapist working with a suicidal teen by law and ethics you have
to inform the parents. But some insurance companies won't pay for you to talk with the parents
because then they call it family therapy and they don't want to cover that service.

The second the parents or next of kin come into the office the insurance company will no
longer cover services. I used to call the insurance company and not spare my wrath.
What am I supposed to do, not follow the law and ethics and let a child die?
And talk to the parents in the damn hallway?

You do your job and keep people alive even if you don't always get paid.

Then you go after the insurance companies and let them know they are in violation
of state law which in my state had made it mandatory for all insurance companies
to cover so many sessions and services.

Fighting insurance companies is a big part of the job for therapists.

And getting things done by working in and outside the system.

It is a thankless job, but rewarding.

In my next life, I am going to relax more.

So the counselor has to decline to answer calls for certain groups?
Or fly in the dark?
