Trump campaigned on ending "endless wars," but now commits U.S. forces to large-scale operations in Yemen

According to an announcement posted to the White House webpage, Trump has formally notified Congress that he has deployed additional combat-equipped U.S. forces to the Middle East and launched large-scale military strikes in Yemen, targeting Houthi militants. In a letter sent to both House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate President Pro Tempore Charles Grassley, Trump described the Houthis as a "band of pirates" who have attacked U.S. forces and commercial vessels in the Red Sea.

The letter outlines a two-pronged response: first, a buildup of U.S. military assets in the region, including air and missile defense units, fighter aircraft, and reconnaissance platforms; and second, an ongoing campaign of strikes by U.S. Navy and Air Force units against Houthi infrastructure and leadership in Yemen.
The move represents a dramatic departure from Trumps long-standing pledge to end what he calls endless wars. While the president framed the action as defensive and necessary to protect American lives and global commerce, the operation marks the most significant escalation of U.S. military force in the region since his return to office.

This full gladiator mode will be a nice diversionary tactic to re-engineer the news narrative in Pete Hegseth's favor.
We will have a few weeks of intense boom boom - bomb bomb Yemen. If that does not change the news against Pete Heg - then maybe an all out bombing of Iran would be the ticket.
Israel would certainly endorse an all out bombing war against both Iran and Yemen. Especially if US taxpayers forked over all the required funds to do so. Let the carpet bombing begin.

(7,732 posts)they can expect to be attacked back. The Houthis made a big mistake recently, and they attacked a whole task force with missiles.
The Houthis can't control that open seaway there, and they have been attacking the civilian shipping as well. The big question is, when have you attacked back enough? Rump heavily criticized Biden for his tit for tat restraint, which I think went well. It also doesn't look great for rumpy's obvious desire to pick a fight with someone. I, too, think that this is a prelude to a war with Iran, which has been staged for.
And, there you have it. I wonder if he has quit on Ukraine because he knows we will be heavily engaged with a war on Iran. That's the difference between him and Biden. Biden was elegant with his diplomacy. Rump wants to be Big Daddy, all to the expense of our military. He thinks Yemen will be easy, and maybe provoke Iran into the war that Netanyahu wants us to take care of for him. All so tRump can have a Middle Eastern Riviera Hotel on the beach. What a dirty deal.

(5,403 posts)I must have grown up with an entirely different civics course than most everyone else today. Of course, I am as old as the hills... when truth was a truth and a lie was a lie... and you could generally tell the difference!
Is there anyway we could petition the United Nations for help? I know we never signed on to the ICC, due to shame and being too afraid of what our mercenaries were doing in our name. So, I know we have no redress there. But when a people's government doesn't allow for redress and the situation is dire, is there any place/one we can petition for assistance?
